Thank you for the kind response. But it still does not address my original claim. Now for example, if I begin a site called exmormon expressions and I have a Mormons talking about the LDS faith in a positive way and I then include a couple of exmormons just for the heck of it. I would assume that the outcry from the exer crowd would be loud.

That does not compute. Don't you have a confession session to go to with your catholic priest or something? hehe. Go say ten hail mary's and sit in the corner.

Lets not forget that a TBM would be out of place in a forum wherein Mormon culture is discussed outside of the "road show and Jello" frame of mind. Either you know this and are not confronting reality or your view of reality is warped.

I commend Tom and George. The faithful Mormons on the program are more representative of actual Mormons in my experience. Almost every Mormon that has been in the church a while is somewhat of a cafeteria Mormon. What is interesting is to what degree they pick and choose.

Just a note to G&T, I am not being disparaging when I say Cafeteria Mormon. Hell, for a while I was a cafeteria Mormon.

Ironically, Why Me, you are a cafeteria Catholic AND a cafeteria Mormon.

  • The podcast is not very old. In a real sense you are reviewing the movie after watching only 5 minutes. I've got more interviews in the wings, but they take time to schedule and record and what not. It takes time to arrange the schedules, edit, blah blah blah.
  • There are active Mormons on the panel and more active Mormons scheduled for recording. However, something tells me that they won't be Mormon enough for you.
  • I have reached out to some pretty mainstream Mormons, but let me tell you, it is much like the MAD boards. For some reason, many of them do not want to appear on an even playing field. They have made some pretty stringent demands that would be unacceptable to any media outlet.
  • For the record, I am willing to let anyone on who has something interesting to say. And I will agree to not edit a single word they say. I will even show them how to prove this is the case.

First John you probably have your loyal following with postmos. I am sure that they are singing your praises. And here you also have your loyal following. Exers and Postmos are pretty loyal to anyone or anything that paints the LDS church in a negative light. And as I stated, you started on the wrong foot when you began your podcasts in a negative light against the LDS church. You should have contacted the MAD board about your objectives of being neutral giving various viewpoints of Mormons and exmormons. Maybe some would have been interested.

John Dehlin built his reputation as he went along. It just didn't happen overnight. And he was liked across a broad spectrum of people. Did you contact him for advice? Unless you begin to give the other side, your site will only attract subgroups and also of course because of your name Mormon Expressions some TBM's who will quickly focus out once they hear the opinions.

 What is honesty? I think in this case it represents people believing in their own honesty. So far, the podcasts have been one sided. And I would think that the next one will also be onesided as people complain about women not having the priesthood and the LDS emphasis of women being in the home to raise their children, if possible.

Why me,

it seems that maybe John's podcasts might not be right up your alley.

Why don't you fire up your own? You seem to have all the knowledge required to do one Correctly, and your ideas just don't seem to be taking hold here

The Mormon Expressions Podcast has:

1. One host, essentially neutral. Ex-member, but not bitter. A natural

2. Two exes that harbor no ill will toward the Church, but do enjoy poking fun at it. They represent the "fully out" crowd.

3. Two fully attending tithing paying members. They have reasonable ideas, but are also happy with their lives. They represent the vast, vast majority of the membership.

4. A forever open seat for new ideas by any guest that would bother to talk to John. Many very good TBMs have already started the process. There is also an open phone line that will be played on air without editing.

What the Mormon Expressions Podcast does not have:

1. A goal of keeping members in the church.

2. An agenda to tear down the church. Behind the scenes, John is very strict on this point. He has smacked Nyal down a million times.

3. A willingness to tilt the playing field in favor of the church. Any endeavor that does this is an insult to the listener's intelligence. This is the most important play in the MAD playbook, the Church's playbook, and of every bad idea. If you have a problem with that, tough. We have enough MADites.

Above all, whyme, if you feel there is a dimension missing it is up to YOU to add it. The chair is open, the welcome is there.

Why don't you start your own podcast for ardent defenders of a church that they themselves can't bear to set foot in.

By the way, John Dehlin has been very supportive thus far.
