bc "CFR" space

Just calls them like he sees them, and if he doesn't see them then he makes them up.

Just wanted to post my sig line.

I stand by it now just as before. In a hostile wiki environment, I would certainly do it. I'll accept God's punishment if any.

There's a good article about the newsroom statement here:

LOL

So now we have an opinion article disecting an commentary article?

Who does the "LDS Newsroom" say the commentary is by? Why would the Church make a statement about doctrine that isn't true?

I've challenged this siggy 100 times. BC still maintains that it is 100% valid, even though by it's own definition it isn't.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but no one even puts their butt on the line for writing it.

Who is the author? Where are the footnotes? References?

Seems to me one wants to be able to find a way to attack the messenger. Problem is, the author is the Church, an organization, not a person. It's the Church's name that's on it. It's their web site. It's their standard for doctrine; the same one I've expressed since well BEFORE this statement came out.

And how be it my church save it be called in my name? For if a church be called in Moses’ name then it be Moses’ church; or if it be called in the name of a man then it be the church of a man; but if it be called in my name then it is my church, if it so be that they are built upon my gospel.
3 Nephi 27:8

Sorry guys. The fact remains that this is the standard for doctrine. If you don't accept what the church itself says, then you have to explain why the Church would allow nondoctrine to be taught in it's manuals.

Since you brought it up BCspace, what about the four year period from 1834 to 1838 when the official name of the church was "The Church of the Latter Day Saints"? I guess for that period of time, the whole "its gotta have my name on it to be mine" didn't apply. Since I found out about that tidbit, that scripture hasn't had the same umpf it once did.

So..

No need for a source name because Mormons follow a church, not a person. Ok. That's new.

CFR.

It's Jesus' church, of course. But somehow this church (a thing, not a person), may make statements that are official.

Hmm.

Who sets doctrine, the church or the prophet?

I used to ask the Jehovah's Witnesses the same questions.

The fact that it's only 2% of the Church's Latter-day existence, your "concern" barely comes up on the radar.

So..

The statment itself. For example...

"Not every statement made by a Church leader, past or present, necessarily constitutes doctrine. A single statement made by a single leader on a single occasion often represents a personal, though well-considered, opinion, but is not meant to be officially binding for the whole Church."

It's Jesus' church, of course. But somehow this church (a thing, not a person), may make statements that are official.

Hmm.

That's how the world operates. Companies, governments, organizations etc. follow this rule.

Who sets doctrine, the church or the prophet?

The Church.....

"With divine inspiration, the First Presidency (the prophet and his two counselors) and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles (the second-highest governing body of the Church) counsel together to establish doctrine that is consistently proclaimed in official Church publications."
