In America, at least, "loony bin" refers to a mental institution. Mental institutions have doors, so Morrissey's sentence makes sense.

With the confirmation of Justice Soto-Mayor one may wonder if the founding fathers ever dreamed of the new standard being set. Empowered by the election of President Obama, liberals now unapologetically admit that it's ok to be racist as long as you're not white. In the words of Spike Lee, "When we get in power, we can do what the hell we want to do." Brother Spike is right on the money with this one. I doubt many white people thought that giving up slavery would lead to essentially becoming the slave. But just as water grinds down the toughest rocks, all it really takes is a few drops and then there just isn't a mountain high enough to hold it back. You see white america, you don't have a voice anymore. Your opinion simply doesn't count. Nor will it be given a platform. Nor will you survive. The time for debating on whether to give an inch or a foot is over. Your earnings, your time, your culture, is no longer yours to give. It's theirs to take.

Indeed. They've coined the term "reverse discrimination" as if it's not really possible for nonwhites to discriminate. However, the overwhelming majority of racism in this country is found among democrats, other liberals, and the "races" (I don't accept the notion of race; being colorblind myself) they've enslaved.

So who will inherit America? Will it be the Latinos, the blacks, or will China swoop in clean house? And how will these traditionally machista cultures adjust to being controlled by women? Will these men bend over and be taken advantage of as white men seem hellbent on doing? Will masculinity continue to be villified? I doubt it, not with the new regime and culture that is sweeping the land. Interstingly our nonwhite brethren just aren't that stupid. So the world could potentially once again be good for boys as well as girls. But the white race is over and with it goes their culture and specific talents. Probably a loss that the reconquistadores couldn't understand, but a nonissue from any perspective.

I'm not worried about skin color. I do worry about government sponsored culture. It's okay to let our culture fend for itself, but everyone else's must somehow be preserved no matter the merits of it.

BCSpace, I do believe that non-white People can be racists towards white People. However, I do Not believe that Justice Sonia Sotomayor is a racists. From what I have seen and heard from her, Justice Sonia Sotomayor is Not a racist Person. I am glad for the nine Republican Senators who voted Yes on her confirmation, especially Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina. GOP Senator Lindsey Graham is a very Great U.S. Senator.
The following information is Part from a Web Site Blog, from GOP Senator Lindsey Graham:

The right vote for me and, I believe, the country
- - by Senator Lindsey Graham - -

Today, I voted in the Senate Judiciary Committee for Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination to the Supreme Court. I understand the path of least resistance for me would be to vote no. But I feel compelled to vote yes. This is the right vote for me and, I believe, the country. Here’s why:

...

Judge Sotomayor is Very Qualified

Judge Sotomayor is one of the most qualified nominees to be selected for the Supreme Court in decades. She has seventeen years of judicial experience, twelve of those on the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. I have reviewed her record closely. She follows precedent and has not been an activist judge that would disqualify her from office. She has demonstrated left-of-center reasoning but within the mainstream – a fact other Republicans on the Judiciary Committee have openly acknowledged.

She has an outstanding background as a lawyer. She was a prosecutor for four years in New York. Her record of academic achievement is extraordinary – growing up under very difficult circumstances, being raised by a single mother, going to Princeton, being picked as the top student there, and doing an extraordinary job in law school at Yale. She has received the highest rating of ‘well qualified’ by the American Bar Association for her nomination to the Supreme Court, which was an important reason why I supported Justices John Roberts and Samuel Alito.

...

The Balance of the Court Does Not Change

On balance, I do not believe the Supreme Court will dramatically change in terms of ideology due to her selection. Justice Souter, whom I respect as an individual, has been far more liberal than I would prefer. Quite frankly, on some issues, Judge Sotomayor may be more balanced in her approach than Justice Souter, particularly when it comes to the War on Terror, the use of international law, and potentially the Second Amendment.

Judge Sotomayor received the backing of Ken Starr, the conservative special prosecutor during the Clinton Administration. Even critics such as conservative commentator and radio talk show host Bill Bennett have made positive statements about her nomination.

Bennett told CNN, “Let me make a prediction. I'm actually probably a little more conservative than Mitch McConnell. I think this will be a very different record than David Souter's. I think she (will) surprise people. I think she is larger than this caricature of her... I think this is going to be an interesting judge, and not one who will always displease conservatives.”

I am not voting for her believing I know how she will decide a case. I expect she will align with the liberal side of the court based on philosophy not because she is a judicial activist.

I am voting for her because I find her to be well-qualified, because elections matter, because I believe the “Obama Standard” is harmful to the judiciary, and because the people who have served along her side for many years find an extraordinary woman in Judge Sotomayor. I found the same.

As a member of the minority party in the Senate, I have a responsibility to look hard at the nominees sent to the Senate by President Obama. Where I can, I will support his nominees. But I will not abandon the right to say no. I will not abandon the right to stop, in an extraordinary circumstance, a nominee who is bad for the country and unworthy of being confirmed. But Judge Sotomayor does not rise to that standard and for that reason I chose to support her nomination.

I would not have chosen her if I had been able to make the nomination. But I understand why President Obama chose her, and I believe it is the right choice to vote for her confirmation to the Supreme Court.

Bcspace, for what it is worth you are much smarter than Rosie Perez. She has no aspiration for Valhalla.

by the way, I bet those Senate Republicans were tickled "pink" when they got to be on the other side of racism accusations. Take that Sonia Sotomayor!

Hi Moksha,

There were just only four Democrat Senators who voted Yes on the confirmation for Justice Samuel Alito. The Total Vote Counts for Justice Samuel Alito was 58 Yes votes and 42 No votes. Please Click Here: There were nine Republican Senators who voted Yes on the confirmation for Justice Sonia Sotomayor. Justice Sonia Sotomayor got a little bit more than Twice the votes from Republican Senators, than Justice Samuel Alito got from Democrat Senators.
I am grateful for the four Democrat Senators who voted Yes on the confirmation for Justice Samuel Alito. I am also grateful for the nine Republican Senators who voted Yes on the confirmation for Justice Sonia Sotomayor. Both Justice Samuel Alito and Justice Sonia Sotomayor belong on the U.S. Supreme Court. The U.S. Supreme Court needs a little bit of diversity there.

From Yahoo News:

Sotomayor takes oath from Chief Justice Roberts

Associated Press

By MARK SHERMAN, Associated Press Writer Mark Sherman, Associated Press Writer – 11 mins ago

WASHINGTON – Sonia Sotomayor became the Supreme Court's newest justice Saturday, pledging during a brief ceremony at the high court to defend the Constitution and administer impartial justice.

Sotomayor, 55, is the first Hispanic justice and only the third woman in the court's 220-year history.

She took the second of two oaths of office from Chief Justice John Roberts in an ornate conference room, beneath a portrait of the legendary Chief Justice John Marshall. Her left hand resting on a Bible that was held by her mother, Celina, Sotomayor pledged to "do equal right to the poor and to the rich."

Minutes earlier, she swore a first oath in a private ceremony in the room where the justices hold their private conferences.

Sotomayor wore a cream-colored suit and her right ankle, fractured in a fall a couple of weeks after her nomination to the court, was unbandaged. Her 60 or so guests included Justice Anthony Kennedy, White House counsel Greg Craig and other members of the Obama administration team that helped prepare her for her Senate confirmation hearings, family and friends.

Roberts, wearing his black judicial robe, said that once the oaths were done, Sotomayor could "begin work as associate justice without delay."
