Re: Did someone say horses?
Parents are stewards of their children. That role gives them the right to make decisions for them at times, but too many people think they have a moral blank check to make any decision for them. The obligation is to act as a guardian, not to treat children how they wish as they see fit. I don't regard that as a dictatorial role.
As far as parents having an absolute right over what goes on in their home, I would hope that a parent can both respect some autonomy in their children as they age and care about them enough to still let them stay there.

I can honestly say that while I was not the perfect Mormon Mommy and I didn't know many things I should have known, I never threw away any of my children.
That's what they're called, you know: throw away children.

(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

Who are referred to as "throw away children"? Gay children?

I agree. I'm just saying that there are times when, as a parent, you set rules that are not up for negotiation. The rules are set up for the well-being of the child.
Hopefully, by being a responsible steward in the rules you set up, the child will realize on his/her own the wisdom of the rule, and want to keep it without being asked.

Children whose parents throw them out of the house. Being gay is reason enough for some parents, like Gaz, I guess.

For tight lids (assuming it's never been opened?) take a can opener or knife, stick under the edge of the lid and lift up just a bit- the seal will pop and then you can open it.

When in doubt, use a hammer.

I often try to pop the seal by whacking the lid edge against the edge of the counter.

I will try that on my next jar. Considering how many jars of artichoke hearts I go through you may have just changed my life.
Seriously.
