I have to once again warmly recommend the comments of Doctor Scratch. Indeed, the "incident" is a construct of a parable -- Jesus turning the tables on the pharisees or better, clearing out the temple. Scratch also noticed something that I did not, and that is the talk serves as a model for the Mopologist and Mopologetic anger. Yes, the apologists must have felt victorious reading that talk. And one has to wonder: When a Mopologist recounts his online exploits, is there a similar shaping of the material to fit the form of the parable? I mean, how many times has a Mopologist from MAD noted to a friend at Church, "so and so said ..x.. , and I felt an overwhelming flood of inspiration, I responded with ..y.. -- and there was silence." (not mentioning that the critic had been banned, for instance, and couldn't respond). And how about this, weren't Cooks tactics very much like the apologists we know? Wasn't it Cook who started the conversation, who pressed and interrogated Jagger? Didn't Cook intentionally provoke Jagger with overly TBM language, introducing himself by his church affiliation, for instance? Isn't it interesting that Cook poked and aggitated Jagger, pushing him to get the very reaction he was looking for and then when he got what he wanted, silenced him for all the terrible things he was saying? This was exactly how the folks at Shields conducted their business with critics. Provoking and harrassing them in emails, and then when the reaction comes, posting the material on their website and "silencing" the critic by naturally having the last word.
Lou Midgley 08/20/2020: "...meat wad," and "cockroach" are pithy descriptions of human beings used by gemli? They were not fashioned by Professor Peterson.

LM 11/23/2018: one can explain away the soul of human beings...as...a Meat Unit, to use Professor Peterson's clever derogatory description of gemli's ideology.

I read part of the thread over there on Mad, at least a few comments and one by DCP where he refers to Jagger's personal life and essentially what a base sinner he is.

Agreed. If only Jagger had produced a revelation or an angel with a flaming sword, then no doubt DCP would be praising him as a holy man.

Do these goofballs ever stop, if even for a second, to critically reflect on their beliefs?

Doctor Scratch wrote: I finally said, "Well, if you can't show me a chapter, then at least show me a page, or maybe a paragraph will do. That would be all right. Just show me one paragraph." And again, brothers and sisters, dead silence. I finally said, "Well, then how about a line, or one word."

If this story is true, and Jagger was indeed silent as Cook says, I doubt it was because Jagger had been silenced by the power of Cook's testimony, more likely Jagger was silent because he was thinking to himself, "Holy F'n Christ, this guy is crazier than bat s***."

Would that talk with John be before or after he was murdered?

It's called Lying for the Lord. Oakes says that's okay.

I don't know if the Cook account happened or didn't.

If Jagger was not on the plane, then it is a fabrication. If Jagger was, it does not mean they sat next to each other or that a single word passed between them. But it would lend an added degree of credibility to Cook.

The apologists, in various quarters, are girding up their loins against the possibility that when an exact date per Cook is known, it might be verifiable that Jagger was in neither Mexico or Texas. The idea that it was a Jagger imposter that Cook encountered is being floated and tested, as those seeking a date are perhaps showing a persistence and resourcefulness that a date might be obtained from Cook's journals in the next few weeks. Others are locking threads and issuing warnings when those seeking the facts have honed in on the date as a crucial piece of evidence. The more disingenuous are simply trying to turn questions for a date into a debate on Jagger's character or pop music/culture.

Despite the various methods, the apologists' steps betray them--showing the lack of confidence each has that the facts will put Jagger on the same flight as Cook.

Cook's son Troy does demonstrate a greater degree of confidence than these other wags. Troy has promised to get from Cook's journals and post on Mormanity the exact date next time he is in Utah, in the near future. (I'm pursuing other avenues as well.). Discouraging is that Jeff Lindsay has indicated on Mormanity that he has no time for it, despite recognizing that there are legitimate questions.

"Dallas or Houston"? Why the confusion? Isn't that a detail that one might want to shore up, or is the uncertainty a device intended to give credibility - as though no fact checking were involved?

It is possible that Elder Cook was in business/first class. Even if coach were paid for, frequent fliers get perks and can anyone can purchase an upgrade. Houston is a hub for a lot of connecting flights from Mexico. Jagger could have been off to LA, NYC, etc. - maybe last minute, and hopped a flight - his security elsewhere on the plane. He was definitely in Mexico filming videos a few years earlier - that has been fact-checked on Snopes.

Basically, as unlikely as the story is, it is, IMHO, possible. But, honestly, other than the denouncement of the Book of Mormon at a loud volume, I don't see much for anyone (including TBMs) to get excited about. It assumes he was serious or even cared. I sincerely doubt a devilish motive to drive kids to sex - rather than simply being provocative for the sake of selling records to rebellious youth. The whole thing is a huge "who cares!" to me.

Jagger was (and the other Rolling Stones were) in Mexico filming music videos in October 1983 for the song 'Undercover of the Night' and again in late January 1984 for the songs 'She was Hot' and 'Too Much Blood'. None after that.

Cook and his family moved to Mexico City after Cook's assignment as area president (Mexico/Central America) in July 1984.

Troy Cook insists that the Jagger encounter occurred while the Cook family was living in Mexico City, specifically in November or December 1984.

This time line does not jive. It is this problem that has prompted Troy Cook to promise on Mormanity to glean the exact date from Cook's journals in the near future, on Troy's next visit there, and post it on Mormanity.
