English, chat about weather..

We English love talking about the weather, or so an American Airlines
in house magazine tells me.
Well, its was 58 degrees fahrenheit today, Sunny but breezy with a hint of
warmer days to come.
Here in the depths of Buckinghamshire, I put fresh wood stain on
the garden fence, dug a big patch of ground over, washed the Garden Gnomes (one looks like Brother Uchtdorf) and scrubbed at the lichen
covered pathway.

Now, my Arthritis has kicked in, back aches in places it didn't ache
before.
Where are the STRIPLING WARRIORS when you need them?

Hahahaha, this made me chuckle. Hehehe. Well, usually the weather is a bit crap. Ha, but on Friday it was really nice, a bit chilly but nicer than it has been so I dragged my boyfriend to the park where we chilled out, fed the ducks and had fun in the swing park as well as look at the wildlife centre. It was the best fun I've had in a while. All the cold, wet weather can be quite depressing. It chucked it down on saturday though, but it was ok because we had gone swimming and were used to being wet by then.

How about the metric system? You guys still measure things in slugs? I prefer the metric system but it still hasn't taken hold here.

We use both metric and imperial units. I would weigh myself in stones and convert to kg or lb if someone else wants to know and doesn't understand stones. However in my degree we have to use SI (standard International) units which is more of less metric. It can be confusing though because I understand litres and pints in terms of size and value but don't understand gallons in size or value but understand that a car that goes at 100 miles to the gallon is a good car but wouldn't have a clue what a good car would be in terms of miles to the litre and I definetly can't visualise kilometers but I can visualise yards. But that could just be a problem with me, I struggled greatly with trying to conceptualise nanometers lol. Then there is the spelling, is it meter or metre :S Who knows?

Meters and yards are probably the easiest for me to visualize and compare mentally. I simply equate them because the difference is only about 4 inches. The problem occurs over over large distances with an ~ 10% error.
