Review: Clash of the Titans

Post by _bcspace »

Took other reviewers' advice and saw it in 2D to save some bucks.

Poorly developed plot. Little or no character development. This movie could have been a lot better. Very disappointing. Could be a cheap thrill as a rental. Save your $$ and see HTTYD in 3D while you still can. Sam Worthington ought to be rich enough already with Terminator Salvation and Avatar under his belt.

For my money, the old school Clash of the Titans is still the cat's meow. Just one more unnecessary Hollywood remake, like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory or the upcoming A Nightmare on Elm Street (which I will still see, in spite of knowing better).

There was not even much interplay and plotting between the Gods. There was just Zeus and Hades. What about the intrigues and jealousy of Hera against her husband? Or the emnity between Athena and Ares?

Although I haven't seen it (and, like the anti-western eco-morality tale Avatar, probably won't) this appears to be, from all the promo's I've seen, yet another massively overdone, CGI bloated ultra-spectacle, so big, so computer gamish, and so loaded with sensory overloading visuals that the movie disappears into the sensory overloading visuals. This, among other things is what utterly destroyed Peter Jackson's King Kong remake.

Jim Danforth's stop motion animation in the original film virtually rivals, as to lifelike smoothness of motion, the CGI Pegasus in this film (and stop motion was a hands on art with a three dimensional model, not an image on a computer screen created and controlled with keyboard and mouse).

I do love special effects, but not when they consume a film, as they began to do after Jurassic Park and Terminator 2.

I don't mind 80, 90, or even 100% CGI. Put some of those left-wing actors out of a job and weaken their union. The problem I had with this movie is that it wasn't as imaginative as it should be. The technical quality of the CGI itself was fine.

Excepting the bit about Avatar (I haven't seen it, but probably will), I agree with everything you've written 100%. Hollywood's lazy reliance on CGI has almost completely ruined the movies.
