What are we going to do about this? It keeps pumping out nonstop and there doesn't seem to be a fix in sight.

I think Obama is screwing up by agreeing to let BP handle the mess. I think the government should take over the operation. Maybe they could lower a bomb to seal the leak. One thing is for sure, and that is BP is not in a hurry. Has anyone paid any attention to the way the talking heads at BP are refusing to take the blame? This was a symptom of the pyschoathic entity known as the corporation, which by law, is considered a "person." How stupid.

These are international waters. There is no control.

Seems to me that there ought to be an international convention against deep water drilling. If they can't fix a disaster in a timely manner, they shouldn't be drilling there.

It's like launching an orbiting nuclear reactor. Some day it is going to come down, and there isn't anything you can do about it.

Well normally I wouldn't suggest such extreme measures but these are clearly extreme circumstances. I'm amazed at how oblivious so many Americans seem to be about this disaster. A moron on FOX News says "Where's the oil?" as if it is all a hoax. Just because he couldn't see it from where he stood on the beaches of Louisiana! Well now we now gigantic plumes of oil are drifting underwater, and signs of oily gunk is showing up in places as fgar as Key West Florida.

I'm not an engineer nor am I familiar with the leak, but if blowing it up will seal the leak, then I'm all for it. Either way we're going to have to deal with a gunky Gulf of Mexico for years to come. Who is going to pay for that? Not BP. They'll pay for the cost of "cleanup" but they won't pay for the loss in GDP, jobs, etc because of the negative effect it has on the fishing industry. BP could go bankrupt and still not be able to pay for the actual cost of the disaster. But the CEO will probably get his bonus before they go under.

That's Corporate America for ya. And there were some idiots a couple months ago here saying they are more afraid of government than corporations. The government doesn't poison us every day, corporations do. If government officials are corrupt, we can vote them out of office. However, an immoral CEO only has to answer to his shareholders, and they're always supporting whatever decision makes them the most money.

First the coal mining incident that killed dozens because the mining company refused to abide by government safety regulations, and now this. Oh, and that company refused to admit wrongdoing as well, and the CEO said the regulations were "silly." Perhaps this is a wake up call for those falling asleep while listening to Rush Limbaugh.

No doubt the reason the government has not stepped in is that they have no idea what to do. If they step in and bungle the job, there will be plenty of room for criticism and they will own future cost of operation. Their current strategy is cunning.

I agree. My dad's a geologist and he said there's an easy fix, but BP isn't pursuing it because it would lock the oil underground, and then there's no guarantee they'll be permitted to drill new wells. By drilling relief wells instead, they ensure that they can still get the oil.
