When it comes to many religious issues, I am with you, Kevin. But I strenuously disagree with both of these propositions.

And that's OK to agree to disagree. But do you have a proposed solution for the current problem in the Gulf?

It's like launching an orbiting nuclear reactor. Some day it is going to come down, and there isn't anything you can do about it.

Probably the smartest comments you've made on this board, or at least among them.

I'm so shocked.

Give BP a weekly deadline to meet with positive progress mandatory.

Each week they don't meet the goal, execute one of the top execs... active or retired - it doesn't matter. Nothing will get them off their fat foreign butts faster than a 'drop dead' deadline that is real.

Wonder what would have happened if the UK had given us the same terms for getting out of Iraq.

I like your idea of an explosive. I'm not an engineer, much less a petroleum engineer with expertise in off-shore wells. So I'm sure my knowledge and assessment of the situation is not well informed. But I like your explosive idea nonetheless.

Yeah, that ol' univ' method to solve any problem.
As I remember, it was satisfactory in every corner of the world. Cuba, Korea, Vietnam, Afhganistan, Iraq.
A nuclear bomb, if I may ask.

I doubt this, and I'll tell you why. The longer this goes unfixed, the more environmental damage is going to happen, and you better believe BP is already on the hook for billions from what's happened so far, and they could end up on the hook for many billions more. There's no way they'll get enough oil from just this one well to pay for all of that. The payoff for what you're saying simply isn't worth the risk.

Couldn't Obama just go out on a boat, raise his staff to the wind, and command the oil to stop flowing out?
