Generally speaking, the PAC tends to have one of the best collective conferences (the SEC being far-and-away better than everyone right now). It's a tough road to hoe through the season. Utah's in for a bit of a surprise, in my opinion (and yes, I realize they've had some success against PAC teams over the past couple of years, but not every single week; it's different).

It depends. The last few years the Pac-10 hasn't been very good, except for USC (my dad's alma mater, at least the one he claims). BYU beat the pants off of Oregon State, Utah played well against Oregon. Wazzoo and Washington and Stanford were pretty crappy, and the Arizona schools were not very good, either.

Yes, the level of competition is higher week in and week out, but it's not like you play USC every week.

Not into watching things like the Superbowl or the World Series. If I want to watch millionaires in a sport I suppose I could watch golfers or yaught racing. I find those boring as well though.

This was the very thing I was mentioning. Playing USC, and then UCLA, and then Oregon, and then OSU, and then UW, and then WSU, and then ASU or United Airlines is a lot different than the MWC schedule (in football). Sorry, it just is.

I know that. I'm just saying that I think Utah will be competitive in the Pac-10 (at least in football; their basketball program is a mess right now). Wyoming would not be.

Yep, a true sports fan here and my team is King of the Hill right now and appears to be on the verge of a dynasty.

Roll Tide!

Oh, and they just recruited an LDS Samoan from California - offensive guard named Luatua- and will probably have the best recruiting class in 2011. I'm not sure how Utah's latest move will affect BYU's recruiting of LDS athletes. Most LDS athletes go to BYU because I think they are more accepting of kids disappearing for two years between years of eligibility.

By no means was I suggesting they'll be a push-over; far from it. I'm just saying they may feel the need to adjust a little more than they might have anticipated.

I'm a little verklempt.

Utah can join the Pac-10, but I'm glad BYU isn't making the cut. But I don't care as much as I used to -- my team, UCLA, isn't looking to have a good football or basketball team anytime soon.

Also, RIP John Wooden.

I believe it's just one of those unwritten rules. That's why baylor was cut out of the pac10 talks early on. I don't think TCU was ever mentioned either.

To speculate on what would happen if ND came calling is just that - speculation. I'm guessing the pac10 doesn't care to add ND.

I disagree. Who else besides USC is any good? How did they do in their bowls last year? What happens now that USC will stink for at least the next 5 years?

I predict a winning record for Utah in their first season - especially given they should have a seasoned QB at that time. Who knows - maybe they'll play BYU in the vegas bowl.
