Sacrifice requires giving up all that the Lord has blessed us with. Technically, it was never ours to give. Consecration, however, requires that we give up the one thing that is ours: our will. It requires that our purpose and intent are sacred in nature. This is, in my view, one of the major faults of all secular economic systems, whether it be capitalism, socialism, etc. Without participants unified by a sacred purpose through covenant, the system will fall short.

I don't know.... I think your grandson is a butthead and I would be worried. It's simply story telling in which "artistic license" is common. He shouldn't have taken things so literally and negatively. It's not meant to be a "history book".

Plus, who says' that simple event with Lucy was "false"? I'm seem to recall Lucy stating such, or at least thinking it. Even if not, it would be a "reasonable" inference, thus not something "terrible" at all as he makes it.

hmmmm.... Maybe your Grandson is being influenced by anti-mormonism??? His reaction is the "common reaction" of those who are beginning to doubt the faith and having been exposed to anti-mormon so called "true history". They begin to get irritated by the Churches "simplistic" and artistic telling of our history.

Here is a good one from the ascendant hate-monger and racist, USU78. Regarding Michael Quinn's decision not to attend the trial that exommunicated him from the Church, USU78 reasoned:
