Re: Arizona 1070
So I've heard the whining about what 1070 was. Now what do you think about it?
What is so damn difficult about carrying a drivers license, a voter id, green card or a passport? What the hell is the matter with people? You can't legally drive without a valid license.
It's as if we all think undocumented aliens are too stupid to carry wallets and purses? Why the preferential treatment??

To be clear - a driver's license was not going to be considered valid support of citizenship since you don't have to have citizenship to have a valid driver's license.

Re: Arizona 1070
Your saying after they ave been through the system and found either guilty or not guilty, then you can ask them? Or only those found not guilty?
If they are found guilty. People arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty, which means they can remain silent, according to the constitution.
Being that it is a crime to be here illegally, how do we, whether on a state or federal level enforce this law if due process comes before evidence of a crime?
The same way it has always been enforced. Most people deported were caught working with illegal social security cards, and arrested on their job site. I've never had a problem with deporting convicted criminals who were here illegally. If that is all the law said, I probably wouldn't have objected. In fact, I think that would be a tremendous deterrent for future criminals.
Does a border patrol agent on a border area, in the middle of the desert, have the right to ask a group people wandering though the desert whether or not they are citizens or not?
Someone appearing out of the desert coming from across the country's border? Are you serious?
You certainly do not have much respect for police officers,
Hey, I'm not stupid enough to think police officers are anything more than human, void of human biases. In fact, I can show you dozens of youtube clips where police officers are shown to be some of the most rabid racists on the planet. Just last week here in Georgia a police officer arrived to the home of a black woman who called about an outside burglar, and they ended up tasing and beating the woman who called them! The video footage was shocking and the men were immediately fired.
But taken as a whole, the police force in Arizona is AGAINST this law, and they do NOT want to be burdened with the responsibility of being INS agents. And why would they? Rising immigration corresponds to lower crime rates, and every argument supporting the hysteria about illegals in Arizona turn out to be baseless, which leaves only racism as the explanation for their fury. I proved this in a previous thread where you refused to account for the mountain of evidence that worked against your arguments about how illegalls were a burden on the economy.
the laws stats that what you claim is illegal.
Irrelevant. What child molestors do is also illegal, but I wouldn't support a law that allowed police officers to arrest people in the streets for pedophilia, simply because that person looks like he could be one, and that person doesn't have documentation proving he isn't a pedophile. What a dumb law that would be right? But you don't see it that way because you know you're immune from this law since nobody could dare mistake you for an illegal immigrant.

Do what Reagan did. Legalize millions through an amnesty program.
The problem isn't with immigration. It is with free social services. It is with federal legislation which compels hospitals to treat patients irrespective of the ability to pay. As long as you have a socialistic state, of course the very poor are going to want to be here.

I think any talk of amnesty is pre mature until we have stopped them from coming over the border, don't you?

Do you really think Mexicans need a socialist neighbor to want to leave Mexico? They want to leave Mexico because they want to live without fear and have a means to prosper like any other human should.
Besides, illegals provide more for this economy than they drain. Virtually every study on the matter has shown this to be true. Maybe we should get down and thank them for driving down labor costs, making virtually all of our consumer goods much cheaper than they'd be otherwise (to spell it out, this means much more money in our pockets since we spend less for everyday necessities). Oh, and for dumping billions into our social security fund, even though they'll never be allowed to benefit from it.

I understand the concern with requiring suspected illegal aliens of proving they are legal citizens. It will naturally lead to racial profiling which could effect the civil rights of US citizens. But what is wrong with making it illegal for undocumented workers to solicit work? What US citizen is being hurt by that part of the law? Everyone must prove their citizenship before beginning employment.

Re: Arizona 1070
I have seen numerous accidents (some fatal) where illegal aliens were at fault. Mostly due to drinking and other carelessness. Nearly all of them hit and runs. My vehicle was totaled by illegals a couple years ago - they weren't even cited.
The last fatal accident I witnessed was of a 15 year old girl that ended up being thrown and pinned out the back window a Yukon. The illegals that caused the accident were caught 20 miles away. Between the 3 in the car, they had 12 bogus ID's. The news reported the accident but no mention of the truth about the perps.
I don't know what the hell is the matter with people sometimes (even good people). Preferencial treatment comes at such a high cost. I don't want it and I don't want anyone else to have it either.

Kevin, you're obviously well educated about this subject. What are some of the negative effects we have seen from having so many illegals in the country?
