First BCspace post that ever made me laugh in the way it was intended.

Well, I was thinking that now all you apostates could turn into little toads, frogs, and gollums spending your days hanging around the Church's trout pond. Kind of in keeping with all the dark little fairy tales you like to spin.

It is interesting that you claim the church is not transparent but you ALREADY know it isn't very charitable. If it is so secret, how did you get this special knowledge?

I could be wrong, but I believe Tchild discovered how little of the tithing goes to actual charity instead of maintaining buildings and other similar expenses via the Church financial reports that are required in other countries that do not allow transparency.

Here you go, Josh:

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=12920&p=320395&hilit=charity#p320395

The Church does have to disclose its finances in the U.K., so we have at least one country where income and charitable expenditures can be compared. There are also some more in the above post about the Church's business ventures.

The issue people are having is about proportionality. Here are some more figures:

http://jhuston.com/Documents/mormon_fin ... harity.htm

You might not like the source, but that doesn't mean that the data are wrong.

Or you can go to the Deseret News, and learn "that since 1984, the LDS Church has donated nearly $750 million in cash and goods to people in need in more than 150 countries."

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/6351 ... .html?pg=2

This was in December 2005. Let's just roughly calculate that.

We'll say 365 days a year for 22 years from 1984 through 2006 (I know there are leap years, but this is a rough estimate).

365 x 22 = 8030 days

750,000,000 / 8030 = 93,399.75

Let's round up to $93,400. That's roughly what the Church averaged to spending per day on humanitarian aid over the course of 22 years, according to Richard C. Edgley of the Presiding Bishopric. The Church's own statement (quoted in this thread) is that the construction of City Creek Center is over $1,000,000 per day. I already linked to that in this thread, but here it is again:

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/7053 ... -Main.html

The Church has said that City Creek is going to cost around $3 billion dollars. In other words, this mall alone, let alone the Church's other business projects, will cost more than 3 times what a member of the Presiding Bishopric says the Church spent in humanitarian aid in two decades.

Are you seeing the issue yet?

And by the way, with your saying that all these figures and cost overruns are far-fetched, I guess you don't remember that what the Church said City Creek is going to cost doubled between April and November of 2009:

April 2009 = $1.5 billion

http://www.mormontimes.com/article/8540 ... te-economy

November 2009 = "around $3 billion"

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/7053 ... -Main.html

But please do go ahead and tell us some more how The Mighty Builder is just making this up.

No, he spelled it right:

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/nave

nave

–noun

the principal longitudinal area of a church, extending from the main entrance or narthex to the chancel, usually flanked by aisles of less height and breadth: generally used only by the congregation.

Worse than that:
$750 million over 22 years = About $34million of charitable contributions per year.
Let's use a very low number of 6million members that is just over $5 per year per member.
Want to say there are only 3million tithe paying members? Ok $10 per year per tithe payer goes towards helping those in need.
Using the church's own inflated number of 13million members that is a whopping $2.60 per year per member.
Where the hell does the other $5,000-20,000 per tithe payer go?

That sounds like the church of Jesus Christ to any of you?
To me it sounds like the Co of the President
It is my province to teach to the Church what the doctrine is. It is your province to echo what I say or to remain silent.
