A valid question, brought to you from the real world. Here in the real world no one believes that Abraham wrote The Book of Breathings.

The only people who have a NEED to believe that Abraham wrote the "book of Abraham" are the members of LDS Inc who must.

The rest of the world does not even care enough to even look if there is anything valid about Abraham and his supposed book.

Mormons like Simon are required to believe that Abraham did write a book and that Joe translated it. Otherwise they are not accepted as members of the cult.

Sure they can not agree, but they know they best keep that to themselves.

I challenge Simon to prove the Book of Abraham was written by Abraham without using self induced emotional epiphanies, a.k.a. warm fuzzies.

Look, I am sorry that you are too weak minded to make decisions for yourself, but that does not give you the right to be angry with the Church, which did nothing to you.

I'm not sure what that has to do with PP's response, but he certainly made a big decision for himself by leaving the church.

And people have a right to their own feelings, whatever you say. You don't know whether the church did anything to him or not.

You cannot respond to my request so you attack the requester.

I would have never thought that you being a Mormon defender would do such a thing.

Proving Mormon factual claims to the secular world will always be futile because feelings fail in the face of facts --at least in the real world.

Hi Simon,

We may never know. But for the sake of argument, let us assume that there is such a dissertation.

Having realized that Nibley makes up stuff, again, I highly doubt there is such a dissertation that supports his claims. Why assume there is such a thing? How about looking up the reference, if there even is one. (smile)

How do you know that other Egyptology experts disagree with Nibley about this specific point?

Because I have yet to see anyone come up with any expert that supports Nibley. as far as I know, every single expert disagrees with Nibley. If you can find an expert that agrees with him please share the information with us.

I thought you were not a Nibley expert. How, therefore, can you read his mind?

I'm not an expert and can't read his mind but I have looked up enough of his claims to know that he is frequently full of it.

Unless you can show that he "made this up" I do not see how you can simply dismiss it.

Nibley makes claims and expects folk to believe him. Over and over, his claims don't pan out so at this point, I think it is up to one of his followers to demonstrate that for once he is actually on target.

td,

Here he's making some rather broad claims without any evidence whatsoever. "Trust me, some German guy found hundreds of these things" is not evidence. And even if we trust the German source, what he's actually claiming is easy to refute. He's first claiming that the Anubis figure isn't always Anubis (but undercuts his argument by showing that it's always a representation of Anubis) and then using the added knife from Joseph Smith to argue for an "incision" that can be "regarded" as a sacrifice.

It's hard not to attack such embarrassing stuff as Nibley is shoveling.

I didn't realize that yet.

Thanks Runtu.

I did make the decision to leave and at a very high cost to my life personally and financially. You Simon, have no idea.

However, being a good father, I pulled my children from the mess also so that they would not be accused of the same BS by some scared little man of not making their own decisions.

Would I do it again knowing full well the cost? For the future of my children, HELL YES.

So Simon, are you going to pony up and respond to my request or are you going to sit there like the bitch that you really are?

They do, but then they are admitting that feelings matter.

Anyway, back on topic.

I'd be interested in your response to my initial post on this thread.
