I didn't do the Swing.

However, I was born in Los Angeles as was my father and spent my earliest years under the shadow of the temple. Shortly thereafter, I went to San Francisco and lived there for several years under the shadows of another temple. My stake center was on temple grounds.

Lots of good concerts there, one of the best I went to was the smallest...steppen wolf, also saw Zappa there and we boo'd him because all he wanted to do was jam and not sing. Edgar and Johnny Winter with Rick D was a classic, they played until past midnight. I could've went to Elvis, my friends dad worked security, but at 13 I would have rather played baseball...I wish I would have saw him.

He could have said "Sorry, I don't divulge such information, but I'll discuss with you anything you'd like." Even you said that it is okay to "ask around." That is what I did.
You already knew the answers to your questions (as Metcalfe rightly pointed out via his reference to Bing and Google).

Now you are being very dishonest. How do you know that I "already knew?" Can you read my mind now? What do you think, I just wanted to pester the guy? Ha! I have better ways of doing that than asking about their studies in a subject.

...

Asking polite questions is cowardly and dishonest? Holy cow, Scratch, you are really stretching out on a limb here just to condemn me for something I am not.

So you were just being lazy, then? You're really starting to run low on poor excuses, Simon.

I do not know what you are talking about. Will you please show me, on "Bing or Google" what Brent's educational background is? Oh, not there? What a surprise. That is why I asked him.

Simon,

Can you honestly say you have no idea about the history of the attacks on Brent Metcalfe as an autodidact? You've never read Louis Midgely's statements to that effect? You just were curious of your own right with no prior reason to ask?

I ask this sincerely - can you answer this honestly that you had no idea?

What's even funnier about Simon's obsession with Brent's credentials is the current fawning over Schryver, who also has no academic credentials in the field.

We all know that Defenders of the Faith are hypocrites in this regard, but to see it demonstrated so blatantly is entertaining.

Probably he can't. Just look at this:

Simon Belmont wrote:Thank you for the back story. It is always nice to get to know the posters one is talking to. I did not realize that you had been asked this many other times, so I am sorry. Also, I have no idea who you were on ZLMB, but remain curious. I lurked a lot there, and made maybe 20 posts. I recall a thread that I participated heavily in with Richard Abanes, but that is about it.

In this thread, Harmony implied that Simon was a sockpuppet, and predictably he got all huffy about it:

harmony,

I haven't voted.

Edit: In my opinion, it is inadvisable to outrightly accuse new members of being "sock puppet[s]." It will discourage those who have been lurking from becoming contributors.

Simon has said other things indicating that he's been perhaps a decade-long participant/reader of the messageboards. Most of what he's been doing here on MDB is just a little game he's playing---some means of rationalizing in his own mind the criticism of the Church that he's powerless to resolve. He wants to combat it and make it go away, and this is his bizarre means of doing so.

Would it matter? If I answered honestly, I would be accused of feigning innocence and ignorance to the matter. If I lied, I would he hanged for treason.

I will, in fact, answer honestly:

The only things I knew/know about Metcalfe is that everyone talks about him here as being the ultimate expert on Mormonism, including the KEP/Book of Abraham and Book of Mormon. Yet, I have not seen much aside from two or three books, in the form of actual content.

I sincerely asked Brent about his background.

You can choose to believe me or not, but I speak the truth.

You can gather snippets of my posts out of context in order to construct an untrue picture of me all you want. It does not make it true.

A "game I'm playing?" That is a lie, because there is no possible way you can know such a thing. You accuse me of "bald face lying" yet you claim to read minds. This is very telling of your character, Scratch.

Are you going to address my above post, or "tuck tail?"

I think your bias sees it that way, but it's the apologists who spend more time talking about him, or should I say attacking him. It's a standard apologetic tactic to attack the person instead of addressing their arguments. You looked like you were doing just the same by asking about his credentials, and since you didn't want to ask him substantive questions about the real issue, I don't blame him for dismissing you. You are still avoiding the issue here in this thread, so why should anyone here think you are going to engage the issue instead of trying to find ways of dismissing the messenger. If you would, you might be on your way to some objectivity to see that he is knowledgeable about the issues even if you don't agree with him.

You can choose to believe me or not, but I speak the truth.

The truth is you don't want to talk about the issue of things like the Book of Abraham. Even on this thread Paul has addressed the issue, and after all these pages your still avoiding it by talking about Brent. Again deal with the message.

I was discussing the issues (with a little side note in there about poor web design), that is until I was attacked by Scratch.

Simon,

Suppose your wife or one of your children tells you that they don't believe the Explanations of Facsimile No. 3 are true. What then? How are you going to demonstrate through the science of Egyptology that the writing above the persons in that Facsimile agree with Joseph Smith's translations?

How are you going to show that the Explanations of Facsimile No. 3 are just as valid as the story? Can you do that?
