In response to whyme's suggestion to take the Fair Roadshow beyond the morridor, mfbukowski leaves us with this gem:

I think that folks outside of Utah are not even aware of the alleged "problems" the firesides are designed to solve. Out here in the real world dealing with ambiguity and diversity all around us, I think we are less inclined to take things literally and get hung up on these issues and of course there could be some danger in elevating these little glitches to the level of "problems".

An example might be a global flood. I don't think many Mormons outside of Utah have ever taken it literally. I have never heard a discussion about it and it certainly is never mentioned in lessons as problematic. It is presented out of the manual, everyone hears the story, no one discusses it or dissents, and I think no one believes it was ever meant to be literal.

There is no perceived "problem", until you stick it in someone's face and badger him about it. "Well is it true or isn't it- it can't be both can it?"

Well of course it can.

Most, if not all, the members I met in England sure took it literally. I swear he (mf...) is smoking something.

Pass it along, you bogart. :)

Bill Hamblin shamelessly pissing all over 30-plus years of Mopologetics.

I say there is no evidence for pre-Constantinian veneration of the cross. How am I supposed to support my claim with evidence? The lack of evidence is my claim.

There are always some stunners on the evolution threads. Thanks cdowis!

It appears to me that the evidence for "common decent" could also be used as evidence for a common creator (or designer, if you will).

Good luck, Tarski. ;)

MADhouse Quote.

I have neighbours
- who are living in the next block, and known as antimormons (by MAD)
- who have got the same GROUP of IP address (by internet providers, known as antimormons in EUROPE, by MAD again)
- Whenever a poet or preacher, chief or wizard spouts gibberish, the human race spends centuries deciphering the message. - Umberto Eco
- To assert that the earth revolves around the sun is as erroneous as to claim that Jesus was not born of a virgin. - Cardinal Bellarmine at the trial of Galilei

As I said above, good luck, Tarski!

Alan writes in the same cdowis thread:

The theory of evolution (and it is a theory, so no, common descent is not a fact) is a fairy-tale for grown-ups. In the fairy-tale the frog turns into a prince in a split second, in the theory of evolution it happens more slowly. A fairy-tale is a fairy-tale no matter how you dress it up.

In one sense we are examples of common descent... we are all desended from Adam.

Is this a quote or just a fun reference - you decide.

It was posted in sarcasm, but still worth quoting...

"Even though Joseph was in positions of power over these girls like President of their Church, Prophet, Mayor, General of the militia, editor of the newspaper, in some cases like Fanny he was her employer or others like the Lawrence sisters he was their legal guardian. Those positions of power did not put him in a position to unfairly influence or coerce their decisions and I'm sure at even their young ages they were able to make adult informed decisions and weren't influenced by his stature over them. If President Monson reinstated polygamy and took a teenage bride the membership of the church should support him in that decision because there is clearly nothing wrong with it." (phaedrus ut)

cdowis at his best:

What am I supposed to do with someone who is deliberately uneducated. Am I your momma, hand feed you the facts?

It's time to Grow Up.

To a critic of the meager evidences supporting the Book of Mormon, no less.
