I'll let you ask God where Joseph got the 'authority' to marry Fannie Alger a few years before the 'sealing authority' was returned in the Kirtland Temple.

I'll let you ask God why the First Presidency issued a formal letter stating that denying blacks the Priesthood was a direct commandment from God.

I'll let you ask God why Joseph Smith's Egyptian alphabet and grammar does not agree with any egyptian translation scholars anywhere in the world.

I'll let you ask God why polygamy was instituted to raise righteous seed but Joseph Smith didn't have kid from more than 20 plural wives.

Go ahead boy, pray away.

I asked him, he said that the poster Joseph was one of the mess-ups intellectually, but that he loves him just the same.

I'll let you ask God why the First Presidency issued a formal letter stating that denying blacks the Priesthood was a direct commandment from God.

I asked him, he said it was because of the socio-political-cultural factors of the time.

It's a cipher.

I'll let you ask God why polygamy was instituted to raise righteous seed but Joseph Smith didn't have kid from more than 20 plural wives.

Because it wasn't about sex.

Go ahead boy, pray away.

Let's say you work for BP, a worldwide organization with 80,000+ employees. You work at one of BPs gasoline stations. You have a question about whether you can take a few days off to go on a vacation. Do you call up the CEO of BP (Robert Dudley) and ask about it, or would you contact your direct supervisor?

Let's say you work at BP. BP asserts that its gasoline is cleaner than that provided by its competitors. You read of industry studies that suggest otherwise. Is your supervisor still the best person to answer the question?

Let's say you are a member of an organization that touts one of its benefits as being led by a prophet that speaks for God (and is the only one with all the keys to speak for that organization). For good measure there can be some "general authorities" that can speak on matters, although they may not have keys to speak about new things God has to say. You have a question about you or your family's eternal welfare. Do you ask the local supervisor that does not speak for the organization or do you try to get access to those that do?

Your analogy fails. There is no equivalent to "industry studies that show otherwise."

I was very deliberate in my choice of words, hence the use of "suggest" rather than "show" or "demonstrate". My analogy is far more relevant to the discussion. A ward member would not likely think it appropriate to approach the general authorities about the schedule of chapel cleaning in his local building, for example. That same member, however, might think it appropriate to approach a general authority as to the meaning of "translation" as it relates to the Book of Abraham.

Once again the letter from lds-inc in Salt Lake City is out to the Wards and Branches and twigs to stop writing and calling Salt Lake City and The Brethren with Gospel Questions.
