Is the belief that there is only one HM or is HF a polygamist?
"Any over-ritualized religion since the dawn of time can make its priests say yes, we know, it is rotten, and hard luck, but just do as we say, keep at the ritual, stick it out, give us your money and you'll end up with the angels in heaven for evermore."

Jeremiah does depict God as a polygamist.

No, it's just she has different responsibilities than the others. God's have different responsibilities depending on whom they are.

I wish I had the direct quote, but I don't remember him making that proviso.

I don't know if this is the exact quote you're thinking of, but it's getting there:

Doctrines of the Gospel: Celestial Marriage

“Marriage is ordained of God. It is not merely a social custom. Without proper and successful marriage, one will never be exalted” (Kimball, Teachings of Spencer W. Kimball, 291).

Also from Spencer W. Kimball: God wants you to breed like rabbits.

Spencer W. Kimball, "John and Mary, Beginning Life Together", New Era, June 1975

You did not come on earth just to “eat, drink and be merry.” You came knowing full well your responsibilities. You came to get for yourself a mortal body that could become perfected, immortalized, and you understood that you were to act in partnership with God in providing bodies for other spirits equally anxious to come to the earth for righteous purposes. And so you will not postpone parenthood. There will be rationalists who will name to you numerous reasons for postponement. Of course, it will be harder to get your college degrees or your financial start with a family, but strength like yours will be undaunted in the face of difficult obstacles. Have your family as the Lord intended. Of course it is expensive, but you will find a way, and besides, it is often those children who grow up with responsibility and hardships who carry on the world’s work. And, John and Mary, do not limit your family as the world does. I am wondering now where I might have been had my parents decided arbitrarily that one or two children would be enough, or that three or four would be all they could support, or that even five would be the limit; for I was the sixth of eleven children. Don’t think you will love the later ones less or have few material things for them. Perhaps like Jacob, you might love the eleventh one most. Young people, have your family, love them, sacrifice for them, teach them righteousness, and you will be blessed and happy all the days of your eternal lives.

For example, Poseidon was the god of the sea, whereas Ares was the god of war.

Actually, it's like she is more in charge of taking care of many of her children in heaven, whereas he is more in charge of instructing those on Earth.

'More' meaning mostly.

Heavenly Mother is a stay-at-home mom? Hmmm. I wonder how one exalted woman---who, having a physical body, can only be in one place at a time---is able to do that for trillions of unborn spirits.

You wouldn't have a doctrinal source on which you base your assertion, would you, TAO?

Hmmmm.....
When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts. A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child.
-- Sophia Loren, Women and Beauty

Also, on the somewhat lighter side:
"To describe my mother would be to write about a hurricane in its perfect power."
-- Maya Angelou

Hehe, Darth J, I hate to tell you, but oftentimes, much of my words come from a moment's thoughtfulness, not from obscure sources combined.

TAO, you have successfully proven that you are a believing LDS member and not an apologist. Congratulations! (I am being serious.)
