In the books, Doakes doesn't die.But he is pretty messed up by a sicko serial killer who cuts people's limbs, noses, tongues out, while making them watch in a mirror. (Seriously.)

Re: Dexter Season 5 Discussion Thread [spoilers]
So, the question I'm asking myself is . . .
What's Lumen's big secret? There is going to be more about her and how she got mixed up with all this in the first place.
I believe her when she said she was kidnapped, raped, tortured, etc. I believe that she did not see the faces of most of her kidnappers.
But what if there's more to why they were after her than they let on? What if it isn't simply innocent girls they were kidnapping, and this was a group delivering its own form of twisted vigilante justice in an effort to meet their sick needs, kind of like Dexter?
I'm just wondering if there's any possibility that Lumen will be on Dexter's table by the end of all this.

Don't burst my bubble, Jack. I still want Dexter to actually be happy. If this is the final season, I hope Dexter and Lumen are allowed to ride into the sunset together. If they have a season 6, how cool would it be to have Dexter teach her about the code and they continue their vigilanteism together?! The scenes where they preparation the kill room and work together are great! The kill scene last episode was awesome!
Also, they have really worked to open Dexter up to this new type of relationship.

There will be a Season 6:
It's likely that Season 6 will be the last.
I would personally love to see Lumen make it to the next season, but I find it kind of hard to imagine Dexter as "the murderous adventures of Dexter and Lumen." Even if she's alive when the credits roll at the end of episode 12, I suspect she may disappear by next season.
Dexter's season ends Dec. 12. Inevitably, it will leave Dexter Morgan in a characteristically difficult situation, from which, this time, he might not be able to extricate himself. A sixth season has already been decided. Beyond that, Hall doesn't know what the future holds.

I think it was a proud moment when Dexter gave Lumen the gloves. I too think there is more to Lumen than has been revealed thus far.

Oh! My! God!!!!
What a nail-biting episode!!!!
Jordon's got Lumen!!!!
Dexter HAS to save her!!! She can't die!!!
If you watch the previews from next week, Astor, Cody, and Harrison come back to Miami to surprise Dexter! Do you think that Jordon will try to kill them, too?
This last episode is going to be a roller coaster ride!
Yikes!

So, who's going to bite it tomorrow night?
Obviously Jordan Chase.
Here's how I see it:
Lumen can't die because we'll be mad if Dexter loses his woman for two season finales in a row
Deb can't die because Dexter already lost a very important woman in his life last season
Quinn can't die because Deborah already lost a boyfriend last season, plus her first boyfriend was the Ice Truck Killer and her third boyfriend nearly got sliced up by the skinner guy
I suppose any of the other Miami Homicide gang could die, but there hasn't been much time for foreshadowing or saying good-bye.
I think Quinn is the most likely candidate for biting it, since they've been working so hard to make us like him this season. Kind of like how they made Rita sweet and not-naggy for the last few episodes of Season 4 before she died. If he does though, I'm declaring Deborah cursed for life. Any man who dates her is destined to wind up dead or at least close-to and traumatized.
I also think it's likely that Deb (and maybe Quinn) will learn that Lumen and Dexter were the vigilantes.
But, my calls all sucked last year, so maybe they'll be wrong again this year.
Here we go!

Worst Dexter finale ever.

I agree. I felt very let down.
I was glad that Lumen wasn't killed. And, it does look like they left the door open for her to possibly come back next season.
But, I was disappointed. I felt like the whole season was leading up to him actually being able to get rid of his dark passenger.
I think he deserves to be happy. I really wanted this to be an happy season end like Season 3 was with his wedding to Rita.

Re: Dexter Season 5 Discussion Thread [spoilers]
- There was very little tension and suspense in the game between Jordan v. Dexter. Jordan was a whiny little lightweight who always relied on others to do his dirty work for him while Dexter is a clever bad-ass with lots of tricks up his sleeve. I never even felt a little afraid for either Dexter or Lumen.
- Lumen apparently had no dark secrets, no surprises to spring on Dexter apart from her lame departure---which was basically the writers saying, "We don't want her around for season six, but we don't want to kill her and can't think of another good reason to get rid of her."
- Deb has the chance to learn the identities of the vigilantes, and she lets them go??? Really???
- Plot holes, plot holes, plot holes. They didn't find any of Dexter's DNA in Liddy's van? And tampering with the blood on Quinn's boot was enough to clear Quinn of Liddy's murder? Really? And what about the red car that was stolen from the marina near Liddy's crime scene and wound up totaled in the Barrel Girls camp? Is that not going to tip anyone off?
- What's with the last-minute happy endings for everyone except Dexter? There was no happy ending and no satisfying darkness. It was just mediocre.
I think the Lumen story had potential, but overall, I'm rating this as the worst Dexter season ever. I'm gonna stick by my earlier call that Rita's death was the sound of the show jumping the shark.
