Well i live in a haunted house .
Myself my sister and a former girl friend have experienced the same thing at different times without the others knowledge .. It felt like something watching us in the kitchen when our backs were turned ..My sister experienced it outside she thought it was me being sneaky but i was inside and there was no other human around ..I have been pushed off my bed ..I was awake and literally had something push me ..I have seen at least one apparition here perhaps two ..I thought it was my mother going into the bathroom but she was already in the bathroom .
One day i was sitting here at the computer and someone made a noise like a grunt with their mouth it was so loud and clear that i stood up quickly there was no one ..My nephew saw something here ..A former friend said he didn't like myself because there was something fearful about it ..A minister confided to another minister that he thought my house was possessed ,,
The house i live in is not old but property the house stands on used to be a part of a slave plantation.. The plantation house was the scene of a double murder as so reported ..There have been people living in this community since before the revolution and most of their graves are unaccounted for ..Before all of this the land was a part of hunting grounds for native americans ..Also my father died suddenly here in 1995 ,, and a bricklayer who helped construct this house never returned to work because he was killed in an auto accident ..
The highway beside my house used to be a part of the Old Halifax road which delivered thousands of people for over a hundred years ..

Is my house and yard haunted ..Yes . By what ? I am not sure ..Is it possible that there are ghosts .I say maybe but what i do know is that SOMETHING is here that is what i know for sure ..

I used to be right were you are, Buffalo. I've always been an agnostic bordering on atheist (whatever that means).

I have had some experiences in the last 15 years (one some years before that) that pushed me to the other side quite a bit.

Like you, at one time I was very skeptical of other people's accounts of ghosts, etc. And, I don't expect you (or any other skeptic) to take my accounts too seriously (that's why I don't bother to relate them), but I find now that I'm forced to listen to other people's stories with an open mind.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

Would waking up in the middle of the night to see a semi transparent being with glowing green eyes making a hissing noise at you constitute proof of ghosts?

My first little encounter was sort of similar (really got my attention). No green eyes or hissing (that must have been unsettling).

Just a semi transparent "monk" like figure at the end of my bed. Hooded and very tall. No face. It hovered there for about a minute and then faded back into the bedroom wall.

It would be proof of night terrors or sleep paralysis, but not ghosts.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_terror
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis

"In addition, the paralysis may be accompanied by terrifying hallucinations (hypnopompic or hypnagogic) and an acute sense of danger.[9] Sleep paralysis is particularly frightening to the individual because of the vividness of such hallucinations.[8]"

For proof of ghosts, you'd need some sort of reliable documentary evidence, not just a feeling that two people alone in a big house had or something that someone who just woke up thought he saw.

No offense.

You are correct, of course, Buffalo. One needs something verifiable to prove those sort of things.

I've had at least one incidence of sleep paralysis and the incident I described was definitely not that. It occurred immediately after turning out the bedside lamp and I had not yet gone to sleep. Still, no proof.

The fact that you're susceptible to sleep paralysis makes me think that other forms of night time hallucinations are certainly possible. Of course, I can't tell you what you saw or didn't see, only that I don't find it probable that what you saw was a spirit.

Why is it that Ghosts seems to only manifest themselves in unverifiable ways - just like God and every other supernatural claim, for that matter?

All good points that I can't dispute. I agree that, if the table was turned, I would most likely feel the same way. I'm not 100% convinced, myself, and I had the experience. I'm just stuck with trying to figure out what really did happen. It did seem very real at the time.

I'm not sure that is ALWAYS true. Still, a very good point.
