A comforting thought to all disaffected and ex-Mormons

Post by _Buffalo »

Even if you completely abandon your tether to LDS standards of behavior and morality, it is extremely unlikely that you could ever become as immoral and unethical as Joseph Smith. Compared to him, an ex-Mo who falls into all the common vices of our age is a paragon of virtue and restraint.

Something to consider!

Yea, years ago, I suggested to my wife that I would be happy to live Mormonism as long as I can live according to the example of founding prophet....That didn't go over so well considering she knows what a creep he was but still chooses to somewhat participate in the LDS church...I find it disturbing that "believers" (whatever that means these days) are willing to overlook Joe's faults/infidelities/crimes and base their lives on his dubious teachings and self-serving revelations but would NEVER accept those same behaviors from people they have personal relationships with....

In order to be a believer who knows a thing or two about Smith's sordid history, you must firmly place him in some untouchable place, where he, as the prophet of God, was somehow justified in sleeping with a dozen or so of other men's wives. In scriptural terms this is known as adultery, but instead of excommunicating him postmortem, we praise his name.

One apologist likes to say that Joseph Smith was better on his worst day than we can ever hope to be. I figure that, until I start sleeping with other women behind my wife's back, I'm completely safe in saying that my behavior, morals, and ethics compare quite favorably to Joseph Smith's.

You'd have to be pretty vile indeed to not be better than Joseph Smith on your worst day.

Once, in true inflammatory Fox News style (or, I should say, Faux News), I compared Joseph Smith to Hitler because of the vast number of lives his BS affected.

Do I really think he was as bad as Hitler? Well, I would if I were part of the "news" team at Faux... er, Fox. If it's good enough for Glenn Beck, it must be good enough for me, right?

Trying to put myself in your guys' shoes...that would be a comforting thought. It should also be quite comforting for you all to assume that you are better than every single Mormon person ever. Just assume it. You'll feel comforted.
Love ya tons,
