"It's crazy, nerve-wracking, my nerves are just ... I've just been shaking all day, I haven't eaten,'' she said at Christchurch airport, where she had set up a makeshift camp awaiting a flight out of the city........

"Just being here makes it easier, being with all these people, it takes your mind off it. When you're alone you feel every single aftershock."

The woman's house was destroyed while she, on the upper levels of a downtown building, witnessed unspeakable horrors.

"I saw a lot of things and I don't want to remember them. I just want to get out of here to be honest, I feel like I'm losing it completely," sobbed the woman, who did not want to give her name.

Hi Ray,

It looks pretty horrific, and must be hellish for those who have lost loved one's, my heart goes out to them. Some neighbours of mine who were on holiday are still out there waiting for new passports etc., like many people, they rushed outdoors, leaving all their personal papers, cash in side, not knowing at first what had happened. They felt safer in the adjoinging park.

I spoke to their daughter, and the British Embassy is sorting things out for them, they fly home on Saturday. We are so lucky in the UK, we have had small quakes, where chimney pots topple and roof tiles damage cars, but nothing like poor little Christchurch.
my thoughts and prayers go out to them. The NZ Red Cross will be needing cash too.

I did read that any earthquake would have been expected in Wellington, as I believe it is built on or near a fault line, but Christchurch seems to be getting the brunt of it, aftershocks were expected, following the September 2010 quake, but this second major quake is more than was expected. A beautiful little city with major devastation. So sad.
Do earthquakes occur in Australia too?
We shall not cease from exploration
and the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
and know the place for the first time.

Hi Malcolm,

As MCB pointed out with the map we are fortunate. Australia' s worst earthquake was in Newcastle, c.50 miles north of Sydney, in 1989, which killed 13 people. That was 5.6 on the Richter. I live 50 miles south of Sydney, and in the 37 years I've lived here I've experienced exactly one earthquake (1981), probably around 4.0. Originally hailing from the Caribbean I was used to experiencing earthquakes about every two years, at least, some over 6.0. My then wife (an Aussie) had never experienced an earthquake, and this one occurred at 2am. She woke up screaming "what's happening?" I told her to relax, "it's only an earthquake". lol.

If you are not the legal copyright owner or do not have permission from the legal copyright owner post a link to the photos, not the photos. Posting them without permission can put this site in the crosshairs of cease and desist orders and legal action that could shut it down. Posting images you don't own and don't have permission to post is illegal except under specific circumstances and can cause problems for the site as well as yourself. Posting images without permission is stealing the intellectual property of others.

It's already all over Facebook. I've been liberally posting "content" from the media on my blog for two years now, and I haven't been hunted down by any legal eagles yet. Maybe that's because I don't make a cent in profit.

Ray, by your posting the terms for viewing you show you are violating them by posting on this site rather than posting a link to them.

The excuse of 'everybody is doing it' does not hold up. You are stealing intellectual property. The fact you do not make a profit has nothing to do with it.

You are a thief.

Joseph feels like sparring.

If I am a thief, then there must be honour among thieves here, because I'm not the only one, so there must be some ideological difference between us that gets your goat. To be consistent, you should also tell them that they are "thieves".

FYI:

Christchurch New Zealand Quake Gets Its Own Wikipedia Page.

File:ChristChurch Cathedral - 2011 earthquake damage.jpg.

Commons:Reusing content outside Wikimedia.

Now pay attention, Joseph. Here is the same source from which I got the photos:

Before-and-after interactive photos from the Christchurch quake.

Note where they got them from:

1. Twitter user David Richards (@richardsd) and Google.

2. Twitter user @PolarBearFarm and Google.

3. Picture: Martin Hunter / Getty Images and Google.

4. Twitter user @gavb and Google.

The images are available on Google.

Now go to Google Images.

I've never had a problem using copyrighted images on my blog, and I've used many. Arguably it's not the most popular blog in the world, and arguably Mormon Discussions isn't the most popular message board in the world. If a copyright owner ever has a problem, all they have to do is email me and ask me to take any of them down, and they can consider it done. Acknowledgment of your source is important (along with the profit motive). Many owners want their work widely distributed, as long as it is acknowledged (brings them notoriety).

The worldwide media have used these images liberally, and I don't think too many are going to quibble about their use since it graphically brings home the destruction of the quake to a worldwide audience, which, I imagine, is the intention of the photographers.

More information: RNZAF photo.

Images or videos can easily be restricted by owners if they wish; just check You Tube re-postings anywhere on the Net and you'll see why they are "no longer available".

So wash your judgmental finger before you point it at me and call me a "thief", or to be consistent go around MDB pointing out all other instances of copyright breaches by your mates who share your ideological assumptions. If you think I can't see through your real motives - then you are an utter fool.

Don't be silly. Of course it's about either profiting personally or passing the work off as your own. Ray's not doing anything wrong here.

But if you think so, go ahead and turn him in to his local Aussie authorities and see what happens.

Yes, you are a thief and your extremes to justify it show it.

Yes, I have alerted copyright owners of other images on this and other sites when the images appeared to be used illegally.

Stealing the property of others is a very Mormon thing to do so you fit right in, don't you?
