I thought Rob Osborn was LDS.

Well, Deborah knows a lot about bias. As I recall, she's the one who said that anything that puts the church in a negative light is either demonstrably false or will turn out to be false. No bias there.

I know I am pointing out the obvious but how much sifting is there to do if they really did not write down that much?

Also I wonder if Deborah does genealogy? Is the information they are collecting for genealogy also biased? Perhaps it is not considered historical. I mean how do we really know when our ancestors lived and who they were if we cannot trust the "second and third hand anecdotes"?

There seems to be a gap in the church between what is acceptable as evidence to baptize someone by proxy and what is considered accurate church history.

You know, I think you are right. I'm thinking of Rob Bowman.

My bad. Apologies for Rob Osborn ... but pick up a science book. :)

After I posted, I remembered Rob Bowman and figured that's who you were thinking of.

Yep. Nobody is more "upper class" than Obiwan.

In response to Consig's thread about covering up the past.

A short memory is the cure for any doubts. That or a big shelf.

Seems like one of those things that the church wants to forget about is using the records of the past to prevent a nation (or a church) from dwindling unbelief. Can you see Moroni and Mormon discussing whether or not the plates were considered doctrine?
