I didn't know there was a Priesthood ban on women. Such implies that they may have been eligible to have the priesthood conferred upon them in the past or will be so eligible in the future.

The Priesthood is irrelevant with regard to woman. They neither need it for personal spiritual reasons nor, as they do not participate in the direct governance of the physical Kingdom of God on Earth (the Church), do they require it as a matter of ecclesiastical authority.

I vehemently deny that I have a Mica Hunt sock puppet over at Mormon Dialogue.

At our recent regional Women's Conference, Sister Beck made it very clear that Relief Society is not just a holding tank for those who "can't hold the Priesthood," but the Lord's organization for women, which is analogous to the Priesthood. I agree with this. As a member of the Relief Society, I have all the opportunities to serve that I need or want. I feel no need to be ordained to a Priesthood office.

...I would explain that the Lord used skin color as a way of teaching lessons to people who for some reason were unable to learn it in any other way. One lesson is that obedience brings a blessing and disobedience brings a curse. Another lesson is to separate ourselves from those who teach us bad influences until we can influence them for good instead.

The Lord helped them understand these lessons through skin color. We see that he helped the Jaredites learn this lesson through a change in their language. He could have used eye color or hair color or height or weight just as easily, but this is what He chose to teach the Lamanites and Nephites. To each their own.

I guess He uses utter ignorance to teach a lesson, too. To each their own...

Judging by the effects missions tend to have on most missionaries, ("healthy" weigh-gain or significant weight-loss depending on the host culture has been my observation) it seems God's plan for teaching these young men has finally hit a wall -
