Give it back...

The Church fooled me, once, but it won't fool me twice.

And before you say "but, but, but, no tithing was used on..."
Wake up, wake the f*** up and think, really consider why it might be that the Church proactively hides it's financial affairs from the membership...

Might it be so that the members do not have to trifle themselves and waste their limited time on numbers and instead can focus on reading the scriptures for the umpteenth time? We should all be grateful they keep this all hidden.

What's all this about the CoJCoLDS not letting the membership have access to its financial accounts?

That just can't be true, can it?

Helmut Nemetchek of German ZFT Television: In my country we say the people’s churches, the Protestants, the Catholics. They publish all their budgets annually to all the public. Why is not this possible for your church?

Gordon B. Hinckley: Well, we simply think that information belongs to those who make the contributions, not to the world. That’s the only thing. Yes. (Gordon B. Hinckley Interview – ZDF German Television Salt Lake City, Utah January 29, 2002 Conducted by Helmut Nemetschek at 47 East South Temple - Church Administration Building)

My emphasis added. It is clear that any person who makes contributions to the CoJCoLDS and then claims not to know about the church's finances is just too lazy to go and ask to be told about them. And of course they would be told what they want to know.

Otherwise the Prophet would never have given that answer, would he?
Zadok:
I did not have a faith crisis. I discovered that the Church was having a truth crisis.
Maksutov:
That's the problem with this supernatural stuff, it doesn't really solve anything. It's a placeholder for ignorance.

I am starting to think GBH would have flunked a pop quiz about the Mormon Church.

All of the complaining that the church doesn't release its financial reports, and here we find out that "jon" has access to them. How else could he know that tithing "used to fund shopping malls, commercial hunting reserves, financial services companies"? Astounding that you, "jon" have received the financial reports while no one else has.

In other words, CFR that the church "use[s] [tithing] to fund shopping malls, commercial hunting reserves, financial services companies."

The Church fooled me, once, but it won't fool me twice.

You fooled yourself. You voluntarily donated whatever tithing you paid. You didn't understand what tithing was, and now you feel entitled to get something earthly and temporal in return for it when the return on tithing (RoT?) is spiritual.

Yeah, how irresponsible of jon, a tithe payer, to think he ought to get the earthly and temporal something of a peek at the books to see how the Corporation is using his tithes.

When you say jon fooled himself and voluntarily donated the tithing he paid, I could not agree more. It takes self-delusion to do most things Mormon, including high on the list the paying of tithing. Fooled himself right into thinking "god" somehow wanted him to do that.

Now jon realizes his foolishness. But you Simon still wallow in your ignorance, pleased as punch not to know how your tithing is used. Are you Wilbur the pig? Blissfully ignorant?

Quite the contrary. Tithing has aided me immensely, and I have seen the results of paying it time and again in my life.

I feel saddened that people like "jon" are so jaded that they are unable to partake of this wonderful blessing.

Simon posted a (presumably sarcastic) point about how I knew that tithing was used to fund the various commercial efforts of the Church.

Let me clearly state that I do not have access to the financial information about the Church because it is kept secret.

However, I can read.

The question is: If tithing ISN'T the source of Church funds for commercial enterprise, then what is...?
Where does a Church get billions of dollars of liquid funds to build a commercial shopping mall if it doesn't come from the members...?
