Pick your favorite three from the list.

Select your top three most “NOM” popular/influential (New order Mormon) apologists:

Could you please define the term NOM Apologists? I thought people like Dr. Peterson were pretty orthodox.

What is a NOM suppose to be? Is this something MORE or LESS than the gospel? How was a consensus achieved. Guided by whom?

Has the limelight cooled so much already that you need another burst?

I was intentionally vague because I've noticed that people in both camps are attracted to different apologists for different reasons.

for what it's worth, this is a strange poll. It's unclear what it's supposed to gauge/measure, apart from popularity. I.e., is this supposed to measure whether NOMs or Mopologists are more popular overall? I think that your other poll was set up in a more useful way, Nomad. Just my .02.

Hi Nomad,

Your poll got me thinking.

When it comes right down to it, a member of the Mormon church can really only follow one or the other - either they will believe actual Mormon leaders or the even more impotent apologists, Not both.

Here's my point, only the Leadership can give any apologist power and authority. And as yet, they have not. Besides, many of the ark steadying apologists don't particularly recognize the authority of the falable leadership anyways. Why would they stoop to acknowedge authority given them when their percieved credentials are so-called scholarship?

Isn't it apparent to everyone that there are no apologists within the church leadership? None.

Packer isn't one. He's never apologized for anything. I can't imagine him starting anytime soon.

Apologists aren't really TBM's. Closest thing they may be are a twisted form of NOM. And technically, that really isn't Mormon is it?

So the question is, who's the most NOM popular/influencial? I would say none of them are, at least among the actual believing Mormons. I suspect most TBM's have never even heard of even one apologist on your list. If they they have, most have demonstrated they have no time for their foolishness.

Best to leave out the letters NOM and just go with popular and influential. Then I would imagine the names of Dr. Peterson and David Bokovy would be at the top of the list.

Dehlin, Larsen, and David.

David leans more toward the TBM side of the equation. Larsen leans more toward the critics side, and Dehlin is smack dab in the middle.
