I said Book of Abraham. It is the one issue where the evidence is just to much that most will not even want to discuss it here.

Fear of having to supply ever more tortuous explanations - Book of Abraham

I couldn't figure out which one to vote for. Seems like they approach them all with equal bravado (or false bravado?) What never seems to sink in on them is the sheer enormity of issues and controversies.

Too bad this poll couldn't have been set up to be taken a little more seriously. I'd really like to hear from the Apologists and TBMs themselves. It's kind of like a poll on the other board that says "why do members leave the church" and then all the TBMs chime in to answer the question.

Maybe if someone could set a poll up to intice only faithful members to honestly answer what topic they fear most. (I'm too old and computer illiterate to know how)

You will probably not find any here that will admit to any of it.

Good point. They'll publicly claim all these arguments are without merit and can be explained, only to run away from the same questions under the pretense that they've already answered them, when they haven't. Can you imagine Dr. Peterson saying, "You know, I realize I've claimed to know nothing about the Kinderhook plates and failed to provide an answer to very simple questions, but I was really curious to get to the bottom of it and studied it enough to at least present an opinion. So this is my answer..." (hell freezes over)

I'm sure any apologist worth his salt will tell you that "adieu" in the Book of Mormon is the scariest topic of all. Of course he'd be joking, but when pressed would tell you that he finds all issues to be equally problematic to "adieu".

I imagine that the Book of Abraham and polygamy (both polyandry and polygyny) as practiced by Joseph Smith would be towards the top of the list of things on "the shelf". However, it probably doesn't bother apologists nearly as much as you are likely to imagine--if indeed it bothers them at all. Furthermore the shelf isn't an airtight bunker impervious to all thought of the issue. It's more of a long term storage location for the unanswered questions of certain topics.

By the way, why isn't the Kirtland anti-banking incident included? It was a huge topic back in the day, and very influential for many apostates.
