Re: Mormon Discussions: The Music Collection
I don't have anything recorded to contribute right now but maybe I should make the list of amateur musicians around here longer by pointing out that I have been playing guitar rather seriously since I was 11 years old and have been in several rock groups and jazz fusion groups over the years.
I was in an originals group when I lived in LA in the 80s and we played at the usual places. For a while it seemed like we might be "making it".
Factoid: By some strange twist of fate, Madona was once in the audience when we played at Madame Wongs West in LA back in the 80's (She was waiting for Sean Penn's brother's band to come on after us)
These days I am not in a band but I entertain myself by playing (jazz fusion mostly) in my music room. However, I just performed "The Clap" by Steve Howe for an awards banquet at my university so I still get in front of people occasionally. It was pretty cool to get that piece down note perfect as I has been meaning to do for quite some time.

when believers want to give their claims more weight, they dress these claims up in scientific terms. When believers want to belittle atheism or secular humanism, they call it a "religion". -Beastie

Tarski, it sounds like you are more semi-pro than amateur. You are invited to contribute a song. You can do an original composition, a cover, or a parody. I would like these things to be somehow related to the board, but I won't be a Simon Belmont-style thug about it.
Do favor us with a contribution.

YES was always great. I figured out Roundabout by ear but I could not help combine the guitar with the cool Squire bass line. The video of Howe playing The Clap is a great lesson.
Bravo Tarski.

Indeed! And we could have more than one piece of cover art, so we could get more people involved.
I'd love to help with this. Runtu can tell you about my CD cover style, or I can develop something new.
