Why I'm not a Mormon: Work is for distraction and not glory

Post by _MrStakhanovite »

A new blog post:
That is why I’m taking degrees in Philosophy and Religious Studies, when I need to take regular breaks from the daunting task of contemplating my own death, or trying to discover and implant meaning into my existence, questions far more important than the size of my bank account or 401K. My material needs come at simple costs, my intellectual needs come at a much steeper price.

The whole entry can be read here.

One of the answers to why I'm not Mormon is that LDS Theology just doesn't feed my soul and intellect.

I very much appreciate and respect honest answers to that question like yours, Stak.

In contrast, I hate and will fight against answers like "Joseph's" "because the murderous Mormons and their moronic priesthood types, headed up by tubbytommy and the terrible twelve have supported joe the coxman in one of the greatest frauds of all time."

So thank you, sincerely. I respect your decision and reasons for it.

Yes, the longer I have been inactive and non-believing, the more I sympathize with Stak's view. He's one wise dude.

Still, Joseph's version is so incredibly over the top that it makes me laugh. I am surprised you take it seriously enough to get upset about it.

Kish, just think of Simon as that kid back in grade school that had no sense of humor and could be 'yanked around' because he took things so seriously. Every grade school class had one or two of them. Simon is that one for MDB.

It isn't funny at all. It's deliberately offensive and meant to appeal to emotion.

I do have a sense of humor about other things, but "Joseph" does a disservice to the name.

But I don't want to derail Stak's thread. Great blog post!
