Re: Poll - Topic Mormon apologists fear most
I guess the thing that makes little sense about the claim that the Book of Abraham is not particularly concerning to the apologists is the fact that they have, in my opinion, acquitted themselves poorly to the point of looking kind of desperate in their attempts to address the problems.

Agreed.
However, it probably doesn't bother apologists nearly as much as you are likely to imagine--if indeed it bothers them at all.
I think you are right. We can manipulate our brain into coming up with solutions that will at least satisfy for the time being.
Furthermore the shelf isn't an airtight bunker impervious to all thought of the issue. It's more of a long term storage location for the unanswered questions of certain topics.
Everyone is at different stages when dealing with difficult questions.
By the way, why isn't the Kirtland anti-banking incident included? It was a huge topic back in the day, and very influential for many apostates.
Maybe becuase people today didn't lose their money and realize with that a few other things they saw wrong about Joseph and his religion. It hits closer to home when it happens to you directly and you see wrong doing in the name of God. At that point they may realize a few other wrong deeds they had previously let go. They may also take other criticisms they ignored before more seriously as well.

It's kind of like a poll on the other board that says "why do members leave the church" and then all the TBMs chime in to answer the question.
Maybe if someone could set a poll up to intice only faithful members to honestly answer what topic they fear most. (I'm too old and computer illiterate to know how)
My computer has a button that filters out TBMs. I should use it more.

If a Mormon is not bothered by these questions why woud he or she bother researching them and coming up with answers? why would he or she become an apologist?

So you think that these are issues that trouble the mopologist?

Re: Poll - Topic Mormon apologists fear most
I don't "fear" any of the topics, but the topic I hate most is the Blacks & the Priesthood issue, because I not only have to show the facts which debunks the anti-mormon popular media claims, but I have to try and get rid of the "racism" charge which is emotion based rather than based on the actual truths and reality of Mormons and Mormonism.
Book of Abraham is easy..... The anti-mormon strawman is just that, a strawman.
The found papyri is not the papyri Joseph translated from, its' simply some of the "useless" papyri he had and had given away, which is how it was in somebody's collection of stuff on their death and later ended up donated by family or whatever to a Museum.

You really should tell Schryver so he can stop concocting far-flung theories for which there is little or no evidence.

So, the translation of the facsimiles is unrelated to the papyri from which the facsimiles are taken? Please elaborate.

That is one of the stupidest Book of Abraham apologetics I have ever read.

But probably the most effective.
