One thing that may be an interesting topic is whether a Mormon can be a good writer, painter or photographer as well.

Thing is, the most famous Mormon authors are Stephanie Meyers and Orson Scott Card. What else do they have in common? Many critics in the Church say that one should not write about evil, especially if the main character is an anti-hero (the good guy, but possessing characteristics that would not fit the standard wholesome image). So that could cause a talented writer to either tone down his or her writing so it becomes so tame that people don't want to buy it, or they just give up completely. However, to be fair this probably happens in all conservative religious communities.

Same is true of photography. Some people freaked out when they noticed that one of those people featured in the ad campaign that tried to show people that Mormons were just like everyone else in business and so forth had some photo model pics that were more revealing than they liked. And can a painter do an artistic nude series?

Just some food for thought.

Remember, the comedian doesn't have to laugh. Just look at Stephen Wright or Mitch Hedberg.

Sure. Just recite the Book of Mormon story of the Jaredite Barges or Shiz with a straight face and they'll be rolling in the aisles. Moon Quakers would be a good follow up. =)

Mormons can be good photographers. Val Brinkerhoff who taught at BYU is one of the top photographers of the female nude. Craig Law, head of the USU photo program is as well and also an excellent fine art photographer and has one of the finest 'alt process' photo programs in the US. He is a Bishop and and an excellent photographer of the female nude figure.

But it is true that many are hacks trying to make it photogaphing Mormon religious junk photos.
