Umm, I think some would say that you can't be any one of them without automatically becoming the other two.
Well, I could never get myself to "turn gay." What can I say? I've always really, really liked men. *wink*

The thing is, the things you mention are quite common to other faiths/religions, perhaps even all. Oh wait, that's the same with nearly everything mentioned so far. With that, i don't think religious faith is in trouble, per se. I'm just trying to say what I perceive as something that causes me concerning my religion.
Love ya tons, Stem
I ain't nuttin'. don't get all worked up on account of me.
I agree with Ceeboo. My first reaction to the OP was that the Internet is the biggest threat.

But to me the biggest threat to the Church are the arrogant, self-righteous, blatantly hypocritical jerks who I tend to find at church from time to time. Sincere, polite, thoughtful middle way, or cafeteria types (still trying to figure what that all entails) are far less problematic in my mind, and in many cases are probably beneficial in a lot of ways, than the jerks who self-identify as TBM. I'm not talking about all TBMs of course.
Let's just say I'm in somewhat of a mood today.
Naturally I agree, but I am an apostate, so my opinion probably doesn't count.

I think adherence to, and support for, individual institutionalized belief systems are very much in trouble. Faith and spirituality are changing paradigms for many in the current and coming generations - abstractions that don't demand the structure of dogmatic systems. The exceptions are found, of course, among some - but seems to me that the religions that will fare the worst are the ones that seek to grow, yet are the most demanding. It runs counter to current cultural trends.
