Re: 33 Year old Man Courting an 18 Year old Girl
Kimberley,
I totally accept your right to voice your opinions.
For the record, if I had an 18 year old daughter who was 'courting' a 33 year old man I would be massively uncomfortable.
However, I would have to recognise that she was an adult who is lawfully allowed to make her own decisions.
Who is to say what is or is not an 'acceptable' age gap for consenting adults in a relationship - even a casual relationship.
Whilst I have empathy for the obviously distressed father, I personally think that making a fuss about it (as he has started to do) will have the opposite effect to the one he is trying to have.

Their recruitment efforts were severely reduced this year. If my efforts pay off, they won't have the chance to recruit there next year at all.
Hey now, my eldest son joined the army gaurd his jr. year in high school.
He's flying helicopters now and has a great carreer of which he will be able to retire from about age 45

If you start a new thread about the military, I promise to ignore it. :)

I'd love to meet you, too, Spurven, but I'm not going to Europe. My best friend of many years is going to England and Scotland and France and I'd love to go with her, but can afford to send only one person in the family, so my daughter, Courtney, is going. Her plane tickets and various train tickets and admission to Disneyland Paris and her share of a few nights in a castle cost several thousand dollars. And then there's the exchange rate and expensive Parisian food...no, I can't go, but Court's promised to send lots of pictures.
I am very excited for her.

Know what's funny? Europe is so humdrum to me. So everyday. Boring!

I agree with Kim's initial post suggesting that it is absolutely crazy to let her daughter go with that 33 year old dude. I have very young daughters and you better believe that if something such as this arose it would end quick.

are the dumb 18 year olds who the US military industrial complex recruit to catch bullets or blow up family homes of peasants preyed upon?
YES
If not, what's the difference? Would you think it's fine for this girl to join the marines and frag a village but not mess around with a grownup?
NO
Failure is not falling down but refusing to get up.
