However, if they search deep within their souls, they would say: The certainity that god lives.

For me, the opposite is true.

Fathers and Sons at Little Sahara. Best times ever. Too bad the church killed that tradition.

That strikes me as a bizarre claim painted with a very wide brush.

However, if they search deep within their souls,

Have you considered the possibility that many may have "searched deep within their souls"? (I have)

they would say: The certainity that god lives. Most of the angst comes from their new found uncertainity about god and his existence.

I am not sure what "they would say", thus the creation and question in the OP.

But my aim is getting better.

I actually miss quite a bit, and I feel that I owe the LDS Church quite a bit.

Now, I encountered a number of things that troubled me, but here are the things I miss:

The temple, and other experiences of the sacred

Singing LDS hymns on Sunday: "O, Say What Is Truth" being my favorite

Taking the sacrament every week

A sense of my place in an ancient, grand drama involving figures of a heroic stature

A real feeling of mission about my academic career

My connection with BYU and friends there

Here are the lyrics to the hymn "Oh Say, What is Truth?":

Oh say, what is truth? 'Tis the fairest gem
That the riches of worlds can produce,
And priceless the value of truth will be when
The proud monarch's costliest diadem
Is counted but dross and refuse.

Yes, say, what is truth? 'Tis the brightest prize
To which mortals or Gods can aspire;
Go search in the depths where it glittering lies
Or ascend in pursuit to the loftiest skies.
'Tis an aim for the noblest desire.

The sceptre may fall from the despot's grasp
When with winds of stern justice he copes,
But the pillar of truth will endure to the last,
And its firm-rooted bulwarks outstand the rude blast,
And the wreck of the fell tyrant's hopes.

Then say, what is truth? 'Tis the last and the first,
For the limits of time it steps o'er.
Though the heavens depart and the earth's fountains burst,
Truth, the sum of existence, will weather the worst,
Eternal, unchanged, evermore.

Ceeboo,

Many church gym floors are carpeted. It's a carpet that is made for sports. I think it is much cheaper than wood.

Kish,

If you don't mind, why miss the temple? You mentioned sacredness. Do you miss sacred things or just the temple? I'm sure there are still aspects of your life that are sacred without the temple.

If you miss the sacrament, are you interested in getting it back? Say, at some other Christian church or the Mormon church?

Some of the other things you mentioned seem like things not at all unique to Mormonism or even religion in general.

Heh, heh, heh. Back in the day when members were asked to contribute to the new construction of buildings, I was called in by the Stake President. He asked me if I would be able to donate financially to the construction of the new Stake Center. I asked, "Will it have a wood or carpet basketball court?". He said, "Why does it matter?". I said, "Well, if it is wood, I will make some sort of contribution. If it is carpet...you won't get a penny out of me."

I miss making paper airplanes out of the sacrament program and flying them in the carpeted gym.
