Why me, are you saying that:
a. We should just accept ALL of what the scribes wrote at face value
or
b. We should just accept NONE of what the scribes wrote at face value
or
c. We should just accept SOME of what the scribes wrote at face value based on our own opinion

?

Any answer to this 'why me'?

We should read them as second hand sources and hope for the best. Let me put it this way: what writing utensils were they using when they were taking notes on what Joseph Smith said? Was it a quill pen? Try to use a quill pen as you take notes from what someone is saying and let me know how you do. Think about it.

I'm sorry, why me, but I'm sitting out on my deck, reading your response, and I'm laughing my butt off --and almost spraying my beer all over the screen. This is your best? They took dictation with a quill pen? You're kidding me.

Obviously I have a follow up ;-)

If we take your advice - I'm not saying we shouldn't, your point about treating scribal documentation as 'second hand' I actually agree with. But if we take that as a principle, then we have to treat the canonized version of the First Vision as 'second hand' and treat the one Joseph penned himself as the more valid, more likely to be accurate, account. The Church, in theory, should replace the scribes account and replace it with Joseph's own account.
In which case, the Church would need to back track on it's doctrines about the nature of God.

It's a real dilemma.
