Strengthening the Board Membership Committee

Whenever you eliminate the creative or non-offensively challenging people from a discussion board, you are unwittingly creating a much duller board. What you have left is a board full of ditto-heads. This certainly applies to MAD and it applies to here as well when posters are rude to Droopy, Bcspace, Dr. Peterson, Wade and others causing them to feel unwelcome or hesitant to post.

This is an open speech board and MAD is not. Their moderators deal with their invoked anger and frustration by banning posters. That is the source of their weakness. This board also has a weakness in that we regularly let posters insult and abuse one another. When that happens, good people leave and end up calling us names.

The strength of a heavily controlled and sedate board such as MAD is that they can easily keep posters from attacking each other. It sometimes fails to do that when moderators rationalize one sided attacks as something that gives their perceived enemy a much deserved comeuppance. An open speech board can exhibit its strength by promoting open dialog in a civil manner. It can also fail when posters are unable to remain civil.
