Re: Four Hundred and Two
From what I understand, RFM comes clean and describes itself as a support group (would an AA meeting welcome those who are promoting the consumption of alcohol?) however MAD flat out denies that it is a support group. I've never participated on the RFM board, so I have no reason to criticize it.

Hello Mr. Kevin,
Salient points, as always. They should re-name the place www.mormonsdialoguing/correlatedmaterialonly.com because that's about all they're going to be left with in any real sense.
I once mentioned before I was banned for calling Mr. Peterson "Mr. Peterson" that in order to play in their sandbox you have to realize it's their sandbox. Once you get tired of playing by their rules you can leave the sandbox, but make no mistake... You will be playing by their rules, both written and unspoken.
One would think, though, regarding the meme incident and Ms. Juliann that they'd use that as an opportunity for reflection. Not... Holding... My breath...

Re: Four Hundred and Two
Ultimately, what does this say about LDS apologetics if it isn't confident enough to let grown, free-thinking adults on both sides, debate the issues without benefit of an authority steering the conversation in their favor?
I think LDS apologetics can handle it just fine. Mormon Dialogue is only a small part in a big pond though it might be one of the larger amalgamations. And not everyone there is afraid of open and honest discussion but like the company at least.
Head to head, LDS apologetics wins every encounter. The only reason why it might look to be flailing sometimes is because it is heavily outnumbered.

Re: Four Hundred and Two
I want to apologize for misrepresenting the active-to-closed thread ratio at MAD. After taking another look, I realize it is much worse than I suspected.
The mods have been moving closed threads and placing them in the "Social Hall" and "In the News" sections of the board. Pages 2-7 in each section consist of 30 closed threads per page. Amazing.
After recounting, there are 896 threads started this year (not counting the few in "Focused Discussions")
Guess how many of those have been shut down? An astounding:
699!
This means that 78% of the threads have been shut down entirely.
Why would anyone want to start a discussion on a forum where you have a 78% chance of moderator interference? And this, considering that most discussions are initiated by faithful members of the Church!
Only a 22% chance of seeing your discussion come to fruition....
Hmmmmm..... that's ironically close to the LDS activity rate.

Also closer to Biblically predicted numbers..."few there be who find it". But in no way am I implying MDD moderation is the key to your salvation.

Your delusions of grandeur notwithstanding, if it is just one fish in a pond, then it is a pond full of the same kinds of fish, apparently. Otherwise, show me a single LDS debate forum run by LDS apologists, which does what you describe. Just one. In my experience, the opposite is true. From various Facebook discussions, to dedicated, serve-based php forums, all debates moderated by LDS members are essentially just like MAD. So it isn't really that unique among LDS forums, it just happens to benefit from more funding (fancier graphics interface, better server, and software features) and better advertisement, thanks to the fact that it was created by the BOD of FAIR.

We both know this isn't referring to activity rates among New Testament Church membership. The fact is the LDS Church produces more Ex-Mormons, than Mormons.

Every antiMormon argument so far contains a lie, an exaggeration, is based on an invalid or non reference, or fails to take everything into consideration. No exceptions.

Every LDS person is a defender of the faith, and therefore an apologist. Therefore every such forum is part of the pond.
which does what you describe.
It seems to depend on tolerance for what every antiMormon argument contains as I've listed above. Nontolerance for such does not hinder the freedom of a forum. Blocking valid discussion of LDS topics does and you and I would both agree MDD does that.
