Black people are a sign of the times

Post by _LDSToronto »

Man, I need to start selling tickets to my ward sacrament meetings.... a few weeks ago a member gave a great talk where he called two sisters in our ward to repentance. This week, our high councilor said it was great to see so many black people in our congregations because they are a sign that the second coming is on it's way. His exact quote was:

"In the front row here is a beautiful, fair haired little girl with blue eyes, and back there, I'm looking at a brother who is black, black, BLACK! And I think it's wonderful, because all these wonderful new cultures are a sign of the end times."

This is why I can't ever stop attending church.

Just keep a writer's journal LDST. This stuff will be invaluable when you start writing fiction in our (*fingers crossed*) writing workshop.

I gave up on secondhand embarrassment years ago - I'd be a basket case in my ward, otherwise. However, three black guys came into high priests group after that talk, and I thought for sure I could hear the four horseman riding down the hall.

I understand the entertainment value but it will take a lot more than this to get me to even enter a Mormon church*.

We haven't had anyone like that in our ward for a long time. In fact, I don't even remember the last time I heard someone condemn homosexuality in church. Weird!

I'm often wondering myself, "where are you guys going to Church" when I hear these stories. I just don't see this type of crap.

you need to get in a ward with a lot of older members, people who grew up in the 50s and 60s. These are the people who were taught the church's position on the civil rights movement, and believed it. THe church was a lot more "peculiar" back then, before all this political correctness took hold.

The old people in my ward weren't quite as entertaining, but during Sunday School they would always add their 2 cents such as the female prophets in the Bible were just temple workers, like the ones we have today. I once took a temple preparation class and the old instructor taught us that God was once a man just like us, and even he had to sit through a temple preparation class, probably sat in a room just like the one we were in. This was AFTER Hinckley denied this teaching to the media. I had a seminary teacher teach us that god literally had sex with Mary, took her to his bed chambers and they fornicated. The girls in the class were grossed out. Of course back then I didn't know about the apologists who taught the REAL doctrine, so I was dumb enough to believe my teachers.

My current ward is full of two kinds of people - married student couples and wealthy people in their 50s and 60s who were probably too educated to buy into the old racist stuff too much.

I'd forgotten about that - thanks for the memory!
