Even worse about the closing of most threads is that in some cases posters/mods are allowed to cast their parting shot after the thread has been closed down. The most blatant case of this is the currently pinned thread by Nemesis where he's (selectively) live blogging this board's response while the thread is closed.

Far worse then simply "live blogging this board's response while the thread is closed", in my opinion.

The "senior administrator" at MDDB locked that thread (silencing any and all voices) and then posted 17 more posts (carrying on a discussion with himself) in blatant attempt to cast judgement upon, offer sole opinions of, and create an enviornment to, be the one and only human being worthy enough to continue to post in that thread. (On many levels, that strikes me as completely wrong).

It is my firm opinion that this is an enormous abuse of power, clearly vindictive at the roots, very irresponsible, and certainly adds fuel to keep the fire raging (by design in my opinion).

I would have liked to, without question, offer this very post directly to the entire MDDB community (as well as the powers there), but I have lost my privilege to do so.

Look at poor Consigleri, obviously a smart fellow, who kept his faithless sarcasm in tow for a long, long time before being kicked off for something mean-spirited.

The post that got me banned was two sentences under a thread I created titled, "Putting a Rumor to Rest," and consisting of the following:

I have heard a rumor that the Maxwell Institute is pulling the plug on publishing Will Schryver's Book of Abraham research.

Is there any truth to this?

That's it. But you wouldn't know this by looking at the MDD board.

Because they deleted it when they banned me.

I've never been to a board where so many threads are locked - even on some of the forums where I thought the moderation was heavy handed, you never saw anything like 78% thread closure.

I think LDS apologetics can handle it just fine. Mormon Dialogue is only a small part in a big pond though it might be one of the larger amalgamations. And not everyone there is afraid of open and honest discussion but like the company at least.

Head to head, LDS apologetics wins every encounter. The only reason why it might look to be flailing sometimes is because it is heavily outnumbered.

Every thread I counted as "closed" was started between now and January, so a six month window. I think you're referring to stuff in the archives, which I didn't include.

Nemesis also validated my comment. He says that threads are closed after 30 days of inactivity--that's room enough for many threads in 6 months.

As a fairly active participant over there, I'll just say that I haven't noticed too many interesting or worthwhile threads getting locked.

From what I can tell, it's usually a mercy kill for threads that have devolved into right-wing political diatribes or grade-school insult throwing. Or for threads that have simply run their course (i.e. the question has been answered).

I can't think of too many threads that were shut down because the apologists were having their hats handed to them. And it happens all the time, so it would be pretty noticeable. ;)

No, he didn't take it down. He merely moved it to another section:

Take note that he also blatantly posted Shades' in real life name...and has left it, even after Shades requested it be removed.
