And I can quite easily imagine your idea of such may not be mine, nor Harmony's nor Scottie's. Isn't this just going to get difficult, more than it already is?

We aren't talking about creating any new rules. All we are talking about is enforcing the personal attacks rule that is currently active.

Basically, from this point forward, if someone makes a blatant personal attack in Terrestrial, it will be moved to Telestial.

That's a great idea, and I can get onboard with it in theory, but knowing human nature as I do, there's a very fine line between a personal attack and a relevant observation. Where do we draw the line? And when we do draw the line, the poster whose post gets moved will accost us and claim that his/her post was a criticism and not a personal attack per se.

If I say "As usual, your suggestion is illogical, unevidenced, and frankly obtuse", is that a 'personal attack'?. If I say (for instance of Schryver) 'your way of expressing yourself is repellent and unmanly' is that a 'personal attack'?

I think any moderator who does not err very much on the side of tolerance in making such decisions will soon end up causing an amount of bad feeling between regulars on this board that will easily outbalance anything felt for this board by those who rarely if ever visit here.

I agree. I don't really see that happening. I think it is safe to speak for all of the Moderators here in stating that we will continue to err on the side of tolerance.

The type of personal attacks that I am referring to are the blatant ones...like referring to Droopy's alcoholism, for instance.

I differ from you: I don't think that this is something we 'all know'. The extremes may seem easy to distinguish, but it is in the middle that the judgment calls have to be made. Different people of good faith and considerable intelligence can end up drawing the line in different places.

Moderators will find themselves in difficulties if they assume that these decisions are easily made.
