I want to know, rumor-wise, what the difference is between my surmising Mr. Peterson is a closeted homosexual with what he did to Mr. Quinn. I don't consider homosexuality to be an insult, so I don't know why you'd delete my comment.

The above is, technically, actionable libel.
Additionally, Dr. Peterson did not "out" Dr. Quinn. Mike "outed" himself to his friends at an MHA conference in which I was in attendance, in front of many people whose names many of you would recognize. What the venom directed to Dr. Peterson is about is apparently regarding a conversation Dr. Peterson had casually with Dr. Quinn's stake president years after Dr. Quinn had come out.
Dr. Quinn has never claimed that he was outed by Dr. Peterson, and the description of his life's journey does not include a nasty tale about Dr. Peterson. A tale invented completely by Mr. Scratch.
I was absolutely
not a "key factor" in the outing of Mike Quinn. In fact, I wasn't a factor at
all. (I was, it seems, one of the last in "Mormon studies" circles even to
know that he was a homosexual. Which is scarcely surprising, since I was out of Utah and thus largely out of the loop from 1977 until 1985, and in the Middle East for fully 4.5 years of that period.)
This charge is a grotesque distortion of reality at the least, if it isn't a flat out lie. It's the perhaps the worst of Scratch's many, many scurrilous attempts at defaming me. As noted above, even Quinn
himself has never made such a charge, though he hasn't hesitated at all to criticize me harshly on
other grounds.
I had nothing whatever to do with "ending his career," which, so far as I know, hasn't ended -- though it has taken a rather unconventional turn. I possess absolutely nothing remotely
resembling the power to block Mike Quinn from finding employment at each and every one of the 2,000-4,000 colleges in the United States. The accusation is ridiculous on its face.
