Defenders, please show me real examples of "persecution"

Methodists want to provide as good examples good church-going Methodists and Protestants, those who will attend chapel services and encourage the kids to follow a Protestant lifestyle. A Mormon would not qualify,.

My daughter has always attended chapel services at camp and encouraged kids to follow a Protstant lifestyle.

How is it a Mormon would not qualify?

Judging by the qualifications it looks like you have to be christain to apply to be a counselor. If I was Mormon I would have not applied because I would know Methodists do not view me as christain and it is there right to deny me. It sad I know but I would have known I would have been rejected before I even apply.

On the other hand, our daughter has been treated civilly and respectfully during her many visits to this camp, even though her religious affiliation is widely known.

She has grown up liking the older counsellors at camp and knowing this opportunity was "available" to her when she went into high school.

She wanted to apply.

I suppose I could have tried to dissuade her, using some pretext, but chose not to.

She had also been encouraged by the lower level leadership to apply, so I thought she might well be accepted, in spite of her cult membership.

I've heard worse stories by Evangelicals discriminated against by Mormons in Utah, but it is kinda sad situation for your daughter.

I want to stress once more that I am not saying this is the worst thing that has ever happened to somebody because of their religious affiliation, nor am I saying that Mormons haven't engaged in similar, and even worse, behavior toward others.

I am just putting this out there as a proposed example of one Mormon being singled out for disadvantageous treatment due solely to her religious beliefs.

Have you tried to contact the camp decision maker to get further clarification on why she was rejected? Perhaps there was a simple misunderstanding?

I appreciate your post because it jogged my memory to the salient fact that my daughter was actually encouraged by the lower level leadership to apply for the counsellor position.

My wife couldn't understand why she would be rejected after such encouragement.

I explained to her the rejection was coming from the top of the management ladder, not the bottom.

Consig's case could definitely be called discrimination, and even if it is legal, it's neither right nor fair.

That said, I consider the word "persecution" to involve a continuing pattern of serious abuse... bullying and intimidation, for example.

Have you tried to contact the camp decision maker to get further clarification on why she was rejected? Perhaps there was a simple misunderstanding?

I wish I had the letter with me so I could transcribe it for you. I will tell you that even I was surprised at how crystal clear it was that my daugher had super references and was completely qualified to be a counsellor, and how pellucid the letter was that it was exclusively because of her religious beliefs that she was rejected.

I mean they actually used the phrase "your beliefs" as a member of "the Church of Latter-day Saints."
