You are probably right but we don't know nor do you. And we do know that there was mismanagement in the late 50s and early 60s in the area of real estate. It caused the church to run in deficits for a number of years.

Interesting it was right around that time they stopped publishing the financial information.

Inefficiency and waste exist throughout the Church. Look no further than the missionary program, temple constructions, BYU, etc. None of these things pay for themselves.

So stipends are paid from business profits, eh? And where did they get the money to buy these businesses? Tithing, of course.
