Most likely the box is with the gold plates, sword of Laban, and other treasures known to reside in a cave in or near the Hill Cumorah, according to multiple credible witnesses. http://maxwellinstitute.BYU.edu/publications/jbms/?vol=13&num=1&id=338

Ground penetrating radar should be able to find that cave pretty easily. Maybe you should get together an expedition and end all the doubts.

Take a metal detector along, as well. The bounty of ancient chariots, armor and swords laying around the old battlefield should bring a hefty price and more than compensate you for your troubles.

Can we get back to solid discussions about how absurd Mormon theology is?

All theology is absurd. I don't know of any theology that isn't aburd. So, what is your point? We can also look into just how absurd other religions are.

However this is the problem of faith.

What happened to the box? Who cares. However it would be nice if we did have the box. Then, we could all go home and become Mormons once it was deemed geniune. And your hatred would then subside as you got down on your knees and asked for God's forgiveness for stirring up trouble against his church.

But what we do have is the book that came from that box. Much better to focus on the book which takes faith to believe in.

When I heard the story about this being more of a cave than a little box, I chalked it up to a spiritual reality. I knew there was no cave with archived plates in the hill. I simply believed that the men had a sort of teleporter into a different dimension. When you step through the teleporter, you are in a different time/space. Was that time/space physical or spiritual? I never analyzed it that far.

You know, a detailed oriented person would have a really hard time with religion... at least you would expect him/her to.

Did you REALLY just say that IE rules???

Simon!! I don't know if we can be friends anymore.

IE SUCKS!!! Sorry, but it does.

Chrome is OK, but Safari and Firefox are still my preferred. What do you have against Firefox? It is one of the most secure browsers out there. Are you sure you're an IT person?

OK...Sorry for the thread derail. Continue with your regularly scheduled program. ;-)

If Whitmer and others are correct in that it washed down the hill, the question is how the cement box managed to be safe for 1,400 years and then conveniently washes away as soon as Joseph retrieves its contents.

If the stone box did exist, which I think it did, and witnesses' are correct that it did wash down the hill, which seems more probable than Moroni spiriting it away or treasure-spirits sucking it into the ground, then the timing of its departure after 1,400 stable years suggests that Joseph either 1) damaged the casket when he removed its contents, somehow destabilizing it, 2) the contents in the casket had been keeping the casket stable and their removal made it vulnerable to the elements, 3) or Joseph did not replace the stone covering and the casket filled with water, sending it washing down the hill.

Whatever happened, looks like it was Joseph's fault.
