In addition to our recent brainstorming about posting images, we've also talked a lot about the "culture" here and whether or not I'm responsible for it.
Opinions on my responsibility pretty much fell all across the spectrum, but the general consensus seems to be that people wish for the Terrestrial Forum to be more civil. To that end, I have implemented two changes:
- The thread titled "The Definitive MA&Dhouse Quote Page" has been de-stickied. It still exists if you wish to search for it and post in it, though.
- We moderators are once again going to eliminate blatant personal attacks. If it's just a one- or two-word thing, like "hey douchebag," then we'll probably just edit the offending word out. If the entire post consists of a personal attack--i.e., dealing with the person more than his or her ideas, such as focusing on someone's current or former use of alcohol--then the whole post may be split into a lower forum.
This seems to be what the community in general wants. Now, here's the bigger news:
In order to keep up with the demand, I'm officially calling for more moderators. If you wish to become a moderator, you must meet the following criteria:
- You must have reached "God" status, i.e. your investment in this community must be 1,000 or more posts.
- You must not have too many "enemies" on either side of the believer/disbeliever fence.
If one or more candidates appear, I'll start a poll for each one wherein people can vote for whether or not they support him or her as a moderator.
Nevertheless, please moderate your own posts in advance of posting them. Instead of thinking to yourself, "Oh, I'll just post whatever I want; if the moderators don't like it they can move it edit it," you should think to yourself, "Will this post create work for the moderators?" If the answer to that question is "yes," then please edit it yourself and save us all the hassle. Thank you.
