If you'd paid tithing and gone to the temple frequently then none of this would have happened...

Why is going to the temple frequently an important feature to LDS in a case like this?

jon is right, this is clearly the reason for why bad things happen.

Am I alone in finding it appalling that Simon Belmont would try to exploit this situation for apologetic purposes?

Don't compound the problem by seeking to exploit it against apologetics.
Just stay out of it. I'm going to.

Mercury,
I do not know you, and you do not know me. This separation will no doubt be hard for you and your children. I feel sympathy for you, really I do.
But I strongly disagree with you blaming the church. So, I ask again: how is the church at fault?

Best damn trolling on the world wide web. I bow to your ability to fire up the masses.

It isn't trolling. I'm genuinely curious, and genuinely sorry about what Mercury is going through.
I mean, he did post it on Mormon Discussions, didn't he? Or is this ExMormon Sympathy?

Just ignore Simon. You don't need that negativity in your life.
I'll be sending white light, Mercury. Feel better.

Going to the temple frequently as a couple is encouraged as a way to grow closer. There are different ordinances you can perform on behalf of your deceased ancestors in the temple, such as sealings. When you do a sealing, it's kind of like renewing your wedding vows. I can see the logic in that.
