Oh, wow, Merc, that sucks! Downsizing is happening a lot right now.

Capitalism is making havoc inside of many families as people lose jobs and homes. The stress can be unbearable. The problem of downsizing is found in the contradictions of capitalism that stresses profit before people. Merc is a victim of the capitalist system. Americans need to wake up and see the evils of capitalism. Until that time comes, americans will always be on a roller coaster ride with upset stomachs.

It wasn't a snide remark. Merc needs practical help. No job, no wife and who knows what else is going on in his life. And that was my point. First, he needs to find a job. Second, then he needs to get back on track with his life. Third, not to be too hard on himself. Fourth, be a great dad.

And not necessarily in that order. But to blame the church for his problems may not be the best alternative. Loss of job because of downsizing is not a church problem but a problem in the economic system. He is not alone in this problem nor is he alone with his circumstances. A support group may be a good idea too.

Well let's think about it

Lucretia: I'll pray for you.
Why me: Yes, he should feel better now

or maybe

Lucretia: I'll fast for you.
Why me: Yes, he should feel better now

Nope you were being snide.

Well, the number one reason for divorce in America is financial, so if this is coming right after you losing your job, I'm not surprised. Financial problems can be tremendously stressful. And I'm sure that your "apostasy" isn't helping matters. It sure isn't helping my marriage.

Be prepared for bad things to be said about you by friends and family, but never retaliate. Then, in the end, your children will rally around you and you will have the final victory.

Great advice. That is the road I took with my kids. It was tough at times not to lash out at my kids for the hurtful things they said to me. I just had to keep in mind that they were only repeating the filth their mother was telling them. As they have grown older though they are drawing closer to me each day as they are realizing what a nut-job their TBM mother is. I am soooooooo grateful for the example she has set. I have little doubt that due to her example, most or all of my kids will eventually leave the church.

Best of luck to you.

My heart goes out to both you and your family, Merc.

I wish motive and intent were not so difficult to discern for struggling couples. It makes it all the more difficult when one of them uses Mormon goggles to filter reality. Truly these blinders must be what Paul was referring to when he spoke of seeing through a glass darkly.

As much as you are saying that this is the end, I would rather hope that somehow, you may find reconciliation possible after some time and distance apart.

Umm, you see, what café crema was doing was ... oh, never mind. I hope Merc finds some comfort and support from this thread.

So the #1 reason for a couple staying together is because they have money? So the "us vs the world" or "we'll tackle this together" mentality isn't present? And wives stay with husbands mainly because they're a paycheck? That says something about the strength of today's marriages.

And I'm sure that your "apostasy" isn't helping matters. It sure isn't helping my marriage.

The total oppressiveness of an entire TBM family is suffocating. We're pretty laid back in my house, so when my neice and her stick-up-his-butt husband came to visit us on Sunday afternoon (after having the week from hell between my MIL's death and a major event at work that I couldn't hand off to anyone), his holier-than-all-of-us attitude because we had the Food Channel on tv going in one room, Dance Party 2 on the Wii in another, and a softball game going on the front lawn... well, it was all I could do to not toss him back into his car and point out that he was on the wrong end of the driveway. The only reason I didn't was because my neice is such a sweetie and she was obviously so embarrassed by him. If I had to live around him, I'd expire from lack of air.
