NYT - My Ex-Gay Friend

Post by _Aristotle Smith »

I heard this guy's story a few years back, but I had no idea there was a peripheral Mormon connection.

The Mormon connection is about 1/2 the way through the article.

"Ex-gay" = closeted, self-loathing gay

Or maybe more towards the middle of the Kinsey scale?

You mean bisexual?

Yeah. I mean, you are right. They would still be denying a part of themselves. I have bisexual friends who are in heterosexual relationships, but don't deny their attraction to the same sex.

Good article. I feel bad for Mike. He seems very confused. It sounds like he was happier as an activist for the gay community. Now he is full of anger.

Do you realize that most active LDS members would take one look at this board and conclude the same thing?

I am afraid you are right. I thought the same when I was a TBM.

Looks like he went from being an extreme activist to an extreme fundamentalist (or is that redundant?) I've seen that happen with some people I went to college with. Some folks just give 110% no matter what they're doing, I guess.
