Why wasn't "boil your water" in the WoW?

If the WoW was really so far ahead of its time and came via revelation to Joseph Smith from God, why didn't God include something as simple as "boil your water before you drink it"?

Even worse, it counseled people to avoid "hot drinks," which were a great source of safe water.

Actually, various types of alcohol were great sources of safe "water" for many cultures spanning thousands of years. Beer and wine were often safer alternatives than other, standard water sources.

My company always serves unlimited beer and wine at all company parties, many of which families attend.

I have seen people at these parties get pretty drunk, even with their spouses and kids there and guess what??? NO FIGHTS.

What is with these TBM fools thinking that drinking makes you violent?

I know many TBMs that believe drinking makes you a violent alcoholic. Alcoholism is a serious disease, but the majority of people who drink are not alcoholics. There is something in the teachings of Mormonism that tend to make them think little sins are gateway drugs to bigger sins. A couple beers will lead to violent alcoholism. Looking at porn leads to sex addiction. Drinking coffee leads to illegal drug use. Reading anti-mormon literature leads to apostasy

If it's about obedience then why does the Church not use wine for the Sacrament when it is specified in the Word of Wisdom?

True. But the actual word of wisdom actually prescribes the drinking of beer and wine. It just says to avoid strong drink (liquor).

It was originally supposed to be about health. The only reason they now say it's about obedience is because so much of the health advice in the WoW turned out to be wrong.

Where I grew up you didn't beat the s*** out of some people because you had a couple cheeseburgers but you sure as hell did when you had a couple beers. Every weekend in deadend pgh. Fun yet depressing.
