List some positive things Mormonism brought into your life

Post by _malaise »

I learned how to speak a foreign language fluently in preparation for a Mormon mission. That's the only thing I can think of.
I'm sorry, but all questions muse be submitted in writing.

The only thing I can think of, off the top of my head, is Snelgrove's ice cream. I understand that's gone, now.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

Good social network. If you need help moving, or if you need help when sick, or something like that, it's good to be Mormon.

It's possible I would have experienced these things being raised non-LDS just as likely as LDS— but my experience was Mormon so......

- social interaction for someone who on his own is somewhat shy/anti-social

- conservative LDS contraints help me to see value in setting bounds on one's own behavior.

- motivational influence. goals etc.

I don't completely agree with the Church's approach to all of the above but took from my LDS training what I found useful.
Crawling around the evidence in order to maintain a testimony of the Book of Mormon.

If it weren't for my mo upbringing, I wouldn't have nearly the appreciation for what a normal life outside the church is.

I guess in a very roundabout way i wouldn't have met my fiance here in utah. because my parents where Mormon, my mother divorced my mother over his porn, married an asshole in utah, and i moved here with them.

I didn't think Mormons believed in gay marriage?

Without my need to examine Mormonism up close, I wouldn't have much insight into the dynamics of religious fundamentalism.

I think I have developed the skills necessary to help hothouse Mormon families adapt to a culture where they are are a disliked minority. I can just hear some 10 year old bully complaining "They don't like me because I am a Mormon!"

A strong motivation and encouragement towards education.

An exaggerated moralism but a motivation to treat others kind and attempt to better myself in spirit, character and mind.

An encouragement to keep my body healthy and strong and avoid things that would be toxic to it, even if it didn't get it just right in all the details.

It taught me that there is a real purpose and meaning for my life, for others lives and for the universe.

I was an eagle scout and learned many valuable civics lessons that have endured.

I was taught to appreciate hard work.

To count my blessings and not curse my present situation in able to better my circumstances.

I don't accept the religion anymore, but I would be lying to say it doesn't have positives that are really positives and negatives that are just as real.

my best, mikwut
